Title: Will it work
Post by: Pete5844 as was on April 19, 2008, 13:13:58
Just got  a V8 dizzy and coil waterproof kit from ebay :lol:will it work :'(
or is it just more cash into the rolling skip(that is now very full :'( )
If I ever get the engine to run right I'll go find a pond and test it.

Depends on what you have bought, if its one of the latex glove like things, they do help, but you also need to run a vacuum line through the dizzy to eliminate condensation inside. You will also need waterproof plug caps, I use motorcycle ones.

I had one of thsoe, it did work but watch out for it persishing, mine turned to goo, I don't know if it was the heat or something got splashed onto it.  The hardest part if getting the right angled leads to sit neatly in the fingers.  The coil has a finger for each low tension wire too.

I got this kit, we managed to fit the coil but haven't tried the dizzy one yet, I didn't know you have to put a breather on the dizzy whats the best way to do that then.  Ben

You need to drill two holes in the body of the distributor and run a small bore tube from one to a vacuum source and the other to a dry place preferably through a filter. I have screw in adapters from an old MOD distributor in mine but most seem to just silicone the tube into the hole.

if you look at the bottom of the dizzy theres 2 holes already there i tapped them and brought a brass end with thred on nd put pipes to my snorkle
but watch ur thred not to long as it might catch the inside of the dizzy internals

Wash your mouth out Pete, that would be a crime

Unless you fit a diesel V8

Oh and as a v8 owner you can add the snorkel to the list of useless inventions including the chocolate teapot, the wax fireguard etc

I've done the mod to the dizzy a while ago after a disastrous day in a ford

I used some brass nipples & silicone tubes but just not sure where to route the tubes too, mine are just wrapped round by the airflow meter at the moment.
I used the article that Eeyore posted but was worried about the timing thing. " as a small pressure change will effect timing."

I also bought some new leads & siliconed on the dizzy cap.

I tried it out yesterday in the same ford that caused all the trouble, I tried my hardest to get it to splutter but it didn't.
It was nowhere near as deep as when I got it flooded though but managed to get the water over the bonnet with no problems this time round  :D

Whats the best vacuum source?

Then what, put the other one into a snorkel?
