Title: New Wheels
Post by: parkem50 on April 17, 2008, 11:14:29
Hello!

I am a new member, and would love some help!

I would like to buy a set of wheels and tyres for offroad use.
I have a grand cherokee wj 3.1 td. 2000 model.
The wheels would be mainly for greenlaning, but as the rest of the jeep
is unmodified, I would like them to be able to cope with most conditions.
These would not be my everyday wheels, just for weekend fun!
Any info on where and what to buy would be a great help!

Many Thanks.

Thankyou!
The jeep will remain unmodified. I suppose I want a tyre that
will cope with just about anything. Mud, sand gravel.
It is the wheels I am most unsure about. What nut pattern etc!

ive not seen grand wheels to buy new (except alloys) you might be better buying a set of secondhand alloys and sticking some mud terrain tyres on and then youll have a spare set of wheels and tyres,if you are just gonna use your mud tyres for offroading in my opinion it would be waste of time putting expensive tyres on-buy a set of remoulds they will be ok,as far as sizes go im not sure what size you would want if you are not lifting it,if you are planning on doing anything extreme, lifting the car would be a very good idea to get you some clearance under those very expensive diffs,2" lift would get you 30" tyres on......talk to this guy www.llama4x4.co.uk he does jeep suspension lifts from the states and he is quite reasonable. You can also ask on www.difflock.com/forums .....hope this helps

In the UK also have a try on Jeep Addictions and should they ever come back on line Birty Dastards Jeep Club

In the US try a look on NAGCA

Where are you based?

You should already be running 245-70-16's (which are 29.5s)

245-75-16's do fit, and are 30.5"

Believe 265-75-16's will fit but may rub on full lock/articulation on the front (they are 31.5's)

May have a spare set of original alloys from a 2000MY grand for sale. Where are you?

Thankyou every one!

I'm in norfolk.

Remoulds sound the way to go.

I shall look out for second hand wheels! I am in no real hurry, my wife is due with our first
baby any day! Once the dust settles I shall have a look!
Any tips on where to green lane around Norfolk would also be great!

Many thanks.
