Title: removing the front diff

Hello, whats the procedure to remove the front diff, I'm not very mechanically minded so go easy.  Ben

There are 2 ways.

Either remove the front hubs, then the stub axles then pull out the halfshafts complete
or remove the 7 swivle to axle securing bolts and lilft the entire swivel, steering knuckle.hub away

then remove the diff.

one has the advantage of being lighter to lift therefore easier to reasemble and locate the splines intot he diff, the other involves less dismantling and minimal oil spilled.

In the 'Front Axle' section (funnily enough!).

Just noticed that some of the pics are out of sequence! The half shaft is removed before the swivel housing is removed. You wouldn't need to remove these if you take RRB's first option.

I use version two, as I find all the unnecessary dismantling a pain.
Very quick job if you just unbolt the swivel assemblies complete.

Agreed, but arms like Popeye are an advantage when you're trying to wrestle the halfshaft back into the diff :-.
