OK its a bit quiet round here so......
Who has the fastest or Slowest Series.....
Mine managed 62 on the Satnav speedo (the main spedo is a bit bouncy!) , on a flat, possibly slight downhill motorway. No Overdrive on a 2.25 petrol SIII '71 LWB (no rear tub)
Obviously anything over 70 is recorded on the autobahn or a track day.
So whos fasted, and whats the spec.

235/70 tyres, 2.25 petrol, OD slight downhill.......
75 on the GPS.
Not sure who was more surprised, me or the cars i overtook.
-
Indicated 65mph before I began to back off back down to cruise speeds (50mph), with an over-reading speedo (SWB speedo with LWB rims and larger tyres), so taking into account what the difference is it would of been around 70-75mph. This was on the flat with little head wind, and also after I had just given it a good service and wanted to see what it would pull up to with the new carb as well.
I also have an overdrive.

3.5 carb V8 on rangey diffs..... I will never know its actual top speed but it fair shifts for an old un and has done 70 on the motorway
2.3 Cologne V6 standard diffs it is faster than my 90 to 50/55 but havn't been past that in her.....
-
indicated 70 in a mates 2/25 diesel :help:
-
3.5 v8 in my series 2a and im afraid i was far to scared to look at the speedo i just know it was overtaking these blurs on the left hand side of the road the day i bought it
-
i've had over 80mph showing on my GPS, thats with the 200tdi running rangerover diffs and 235*85r16 tyres :)
the speedo only showed 60 tho

A good bit over 70MPH in the above Speedo wouldn't go above 60MPH and didn't have GPS 3.5V8(SD1) through rev where about 5800rpm in fourth though.
-
on our way down to portsmouth to pick up my disco a series 2 charged past us, we were doing 85-90 in the d2 he must have been doing 100!
-
Never done over 70 (honest gov).
83 on the GPS and wasn't trying on a 2.25 petrol (with 1 or 2 tweeks).
-
pushing 75 on the flat with overdrive still got more pedal left no gps to cross refer
series 3 with prima no mods
got an intercooler to put on and plenty of tweeks on the fuel pump to do
-
About 80ish on the speedo (well, looked like about 5mph off the scale). 2.25 Diesel, overdrive 205R16 tyres. It'll do 70 on the flat but this was down a steep hill, sounded like it had reached the goviner so there was nothing left in it - calculations I've done on the tyre size and gear ratios back that up too, as did the looks on the faces of all the cars I was overtakeing at the time - who says diesels are slow?
-
on the way back from exmoore a few years ago in my s3 2.25 my speedo read 70 and i was runnng 265 75 16 not sure how fast i was going but i did over take a police witch i had to laugh about but after that time she never manged it again and i was lucky if she read 60
-
70mph on flat 2.25 diesel with 7.5016 and overdrive flat to the floor.
-
70mph on the level by gps in a laden 2.25D 109" without an overdrive.
It did have more to give, but I wasn't keen on risking it throwing a rod...
93mph (indicated) in a 2.6 6cly 109", on 3.5 diffs. Used a slight decent to gain speed, it then held it on the flat. Never again, it was very scary.
80mph GPS ^^ same vehicle. On a private track which is rather similar to climbing windy hill on the M62... ;)
Oh, and the slowest - the 2.25D 109" above, with the timing a tooth out. 35mph on the flat, with half a mile runup...
Slowest in regular use was 2.25D 88", that topped out at about 61 on the flat, (on 7.50s), and that wasn't the govener, as it sped up going downhill.
Coming up to the end of the M67 into a bad headwind on one occasion I was down to 45mph...
-
'bout 2mph at the moment, once the engine's in, she'll go for a good run and we'll see, still got 3.54 diffs in, so given a downhill section I'm hoping I'll be able to stop (sticky brakes).
-
On a few occasions running to make the last ferry home from work in France the gps has reported a scary 95mph with an inch or so of travel left on the loud pedal, but that is with a v8, overdrive, 3.9 diffs and 235/85 mud terrains.
-
235/70's new acr engine (still abit tight!) rangie diffs had 80 on gps with plenty more to go!
-
had 85 out of my `59 sII SWB, i was being followed by my mate i his car. no overdrive, standard diffs and 2.8 v6. was reving the nuts off it, i want it to go bang so i have an exuse to put a 200tdi in it!!!!
-
I tried timing 0-60 in the 101 on the Slapton Line one day (flat, straight and 2.3 miles long). 4 minutes later we were still not over 55 on the gps and were coming into Torcross village (speed limit and bend) so I had to throw out the anchors.
Driving North through Mauritania and Western Sahara we had a headwind for about 3 days which kept us below 40 and took the economy down to about 6mpg!
-
i got 91 out of my old folks 109 county the old man told me to slow down an i had 85 out of nelly before the engine went BANG (RR diffs Stage 1 head 2 1/4 diesel 235/85 R16 swb )
