I've recently bought a clutch kit and arm from this chap:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=330215066748
If the link doesn't work then search on www.ebay.co.uk for:
LAND ROVER DISCOVERY DEFENDER 4 PC CLUTCH KIT BRITPART
but since then I've seen comments on the web saying that BRITPART stuff is poor quality -anyone had any good or bad experiences of their stuff?
Getting the gearbox out/in is such a major job that I really don't want to have to change the clutch again if it proves to be below standard
-
throw it away and buy a proper one.
iknow i really knock britpart and you might just think im a disgruntled customer, but there stuff is just low quality, poorly made crap, and there are many people that will back this up.
i have had lots of britpart items over the last couple of years doing rebuilds etc, and after nothing but agro with nearly all of it, havent bought anything other than genuine for about the last 6/7 months, and will never buy their stuff again.
i keep saying it, if something costs £200 and the cheap boyz sell for £150, you accept its probably not as good , but a good saving, but when they are selling that 'same' item for 13.99, it can be nothing but crap.
-
They seem to be ok for things like filters - have one of their fuel filters on mine, no problems. I wouldn't buy anything that actually moves (such as pumps) from them after what I've read here though!
-
there stuff is just low quality, poorly made crap
I will second that. steer clear if you can.
With a clutch go for Borg & Beck
wizard

Borg and beck have had a name change, buy them from paddocks, cheapest place for em, B+B are the best
-
yep ^wot they said^ ##itpart are rubbish for parts like this
go with a Borg n Beck or what ever their new name is
they are the best
-
Thanks guys -your advice is appreciated.
The following is the other type of clutch sold by the chap I bought the Britpart clutch off. It is an 'AP Driveline' clutch but he also describes it as 'Borg & Beck' so I presume AP is the new name:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/LAND-ROVER-DISCOVERY-DEFENDER-4-PC-CLUTCH-KIT-AP_W0QQitemZ330214930277QQihZ014QQcategoryZ31348QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1742.m153.l1262
This is Paddock's 'Borg & Beck' clutch (also branded AP)
http://www.paddockspares.com/pp/DISCOVERY_1/Clutch/Borg_and_Beck_Clutch_Kit_(plate,_cover_and_release_bearing)_-_200TDI_and_300TDI.html
The next question is: I wonder which parts on eBay are genuine & counterfeit. This seller seems sound and has great feedback but I can't help noticing that the printing of 'AP' on the box looks rather poor quality compared to the Paddock photo (although it is difficult to be sure from the photo).
The plan now is to send the Britpart clutch back to the eBay chap and pay him the extra to have his AP clutch
-
Borg & Beck are now owned by AP, so they are the same item.

I fitted a Delphi 9not sure what the other brand name on the boc was) and though it was a good quality clutch I still killed it quick enough
-
cant see what the problem is with britpart as i always use their stuff and never had a problem. fitted clutch about a month ago obviosly to early for probs to occor, and did you know many parts land rover use are from britpart. they also supply the milatry so cant be that bad can they :-k
-
WHO TOLD YOU THAT THEN?
-
no need to shout guardian sir, i know people who work there. also it mentions the fact that they supply the armed forces in th LRO ;)
-
I've also heard from servicemen that work on Land Rovers that they are given Britpart stuff to fit (but you don't know if it is basic stuff like oil filters rather than critical stuff like clutches that the MOD uses)
-
They use most Britpart stuff. Brake discs clutches ect.
-
Just to add to this, is this the same MoD that send out troops out to battle without the correct kit ?
The same MoD that make our troops buy the additional equipment they require from army surplus stores, and the same Mod that when our troops come home injured treat them with contempt !
If it is then it doesnt surprise me one bit that they use Britpart stuff.

guess it's one of those subjects that every one has good or bad points of view about ,,,,,,i bought an AP driveline clutch and after fitting it immediately started to get clutch judder ,so out it came and sent it back to them direct for analysis ,turned out the thrust bearing was faulty, :(..still at least AP reimbursed me my labour cost of having another clutch re-fitted :D
see dearest ain't always good either
-
Worked for A.P. For years Lockhead brakes Borg and Beck clutches very good quality. They closed down a while back dont know who makes them now dont think they would be British any more. Ours were good though.

hope you have more luck than me , just fitted a valeo one . great trouble is whe i fitted the box on me own didnt quite get it in straight and caught the spiggot brg, picked up and the clutch cleared but the spiggot dragged so couldnt get any gears. 2nd time lucky alls o.k.. what a pain..
