HI all, ive been advised by the garage , thats is doing my disco ( xmember,polybush kit,suspension) that i require new discs and pads on the front,
after looking at the prices on paddocks and mm4x4 , should i ask for any specific brand , or should i just purchase what is advertised/recommended
and is it an easy job , im assuming the hub nuts require a torque wrench(which i have, but no hub socket) and this would save me £100 quote'd

ya can get the hub nut socket thingy from almost anywheres these days.
But the thing that I bought which IMHO I reckon was once a coke can they just knocked the ends out caved in on me when i first had a bearing go and i still to this day remember the pain as the skin on my knuckles just fell off :angry:
Soooo buy a decent one saves ya hands i got a proper socket now to do it, weighs a ton but it wont collapse, ( I think its a shell casing from the bismark its that big lol)

Disks, especially the front ones, don't buy hong-kong-fuey, get branded. Try E-Bay there are lots of places selling them and some will sell you grovved vented disks for not uch more than the price of the didks alone.
Pads, you can't go wrong with Mintex. I use EBC but I struggle to justify them other than they are so cheap from paddocks.
Full car's worth of EBC pads is roughly £50
Four disks and eight pads, all EBC, vented and grooved, a little over £200, for my LSE which sort of needs them.

looks like you got a rear axle brake job to do on mine then mate just shout when you need it :P, oh and i had to de corrode all the light fittings today as it was like blackpool on and off :shock: . first no h/lights then one side light then everything but no brake lights , any way i did it in the end and also put a new brake light switch on which weas still full of welsh water :lol:

I bought the Paddocks kit for my Disco,s I found it fine. The pads that came with my 300Tdi were Mintex as well so I was well pleased.If its a 200 Tdi your looking for I,m breaking mine and the discs are less than 6 months old.

thanks lads for all your replies, I've ordered the paddocks kit looks a good buy, and i don't really do any serious off-road / g-laning yet..so should be ok.

i wished you lived near me !!! :lol: i think i got stung, i paid £230 for the rear discs and pads , and bearings in one side !!!
hence why I'm doing the fronts myself, I've done them on a 82 rangie quite a while back(6 years), i would have been more than happy to pay the garage but £100 on top of parts would go towards errr..... beer.(nope)....snorkel..winch bumper...mm yes
do i just nip up the hub nuts as i wont be replacing the bearings, or should i torque them up?

well when i went to pick the disco up from the garage who had done the shocks springs and polybush kit, he quoted me £60 for parts and 3 hours labour and i think it came to £130
on the other have he was £400 cheaper than anywhere else in leeds and wakefield for all the work i'd just had done.

Somehow I'm thinking it doesn't take Mick 3 hours to do it :-k

I've got a '02 Discovery which will soon be in need of new discs and pads.
I changed them on my '95 discovery a couple of years ago, and i was wondering if the job is the same for the '02 model.
