Post by: Tailendcharley on January 21, 2008, 10:42:50
    I have been trying to download a DVD onto my Ipod by using several different free download programmes but as I make my way through the procedure a box pops up telling me that the DVD is copyright protected...anyone come across this or have any suggestions please...these puter things are doing my head in...it sounds so simple on the Itunes web site....... :D :D

it might be better to ask for pm's replying to your thread because MC might get a bit uptight talking about copyright issues!!
just a thought... Rob

Assuming it's a DVD you own and you're using it within the copyright restrictions, then the short answer is it's dead easy if you use a Mac - for example, HandBrake will let you do it with about 3 button presses.

If you use MpegStreamclip with the right plugins, you can do it on the PC, but you'll need an Mpeg2 plugin IIRC to read the DVD stream, and for that you need to buy Quicktime and pay for the plugin...  There must be an easier way, but I've never found it.  All I do is shut down the PC and use the Mac instead.  In fact that goes for most things to be fair

I've done it before on a PC using free software, I'll have a dig around and see if I can find which programs they were. If I remember correctly, it took a fair bit of digging around t'interweb to find 'em.

Right, remembered what it was that I used. I used DVD Decrypter (http://www.dvddecrypter.org.uk/) to decode the DVD, and then Videora (http://www.videora.com/) to convert to the iPod format.

There is a guide on the Videora site here (http://www.videora.com/en-us/Converter/iPod//guide/dvd-to-ipod/).
