Title: Xenon lights
Post by: davidlandy on December 19, 2007, 20:07:42
these should be banned - great when you are in the car but when they coming towards you theyre a nightmare, got near blinded tonight by a set on a porsche cayenne.

My standard halogen lights would be just as bright as Xenons if I too drove around with full beam on!

Just as bad as badly adjusted lights which I have seen loads of tonight on the motorway.

If they bother you that much, perhaps wear tinted glasses?  :)

I like the Xenon's on my BMW, but I suppose I'm not looking at them!

They are self leveling to avoid blinding people and you can adjust them down a bit as well I believe.

They do seem to cut through the rain better than normal halogens.

The proper ones aren't that bad with all the fancy self leveling systems but do give a bit of dazzle if coming over a hill.  Here to stay though.

The ilegal "HID conversions" that people do to halogen lights are a menice though!  Chances are if your dazzled by HID it'll be one of these kits in a car thats not ment to have them.

Anyone who drives with main beams to oncomming traffic or front fogs when its not foggy, I think you can use your imagineation to come up with the corect discriptive term for such a driver.

There are alot of badly ajusted halogen lights out there though, my Syncro's driving position towers down on vertully anything other than trucks (higher than many 4x4s!) and yet I'm regularly dazzled by oncomming traffic on dipped beam, whats it like for someone in a car? Glad I don't drive one!

its not Xenon lights that are the problem its the HID ones
i have xenon lights on my landy and they dont dazzle anyone
xenon is just a halogen gas, hence halogen lights

I am glad I don't meet you coming towards me !

Personally I don't agree that its just the conversions that cause the problem, most Xenons cause dazzle... even on the top of the range motors.

While we are having a moan, can we please ban rear foglights ?  At least oncoming dazzle soon passes by, following some twerp's rear foglights down a crowded motorway drives me crazy ! .

Give 'em a mirror full of main beam. Although if they can't see a glaring orange/red light on the dash they probably won't take the hint anyway.
Why oh why couldn't they wire them through a relay like Ford do (or did anyway). At least then as soon as the motor is switched off the relay breaks the connection.

I don't mind if they're parked, and the engine's turned off,  it's when I am following them that they annoy me.

On my Disco I had a pair of Cibie Super Oscar long range lamps... a flash of those and they wondered why the hairs on their neck were burning.... soon turned rear fogs off... and usually waved a hand of apology. Doesn't that prove they knew they had them on ???

My pet hate is morons on Motorways with High Beam on not only does it dazzle it's also an offence.  But I'm amazed how many people do it, and for why it's not like your gonna meet someone coming the other way (well not often  ) and there aren't many blind bends or tight corners on a motor way So it's not like you need to see whats coming up next.

The foglight brigade always seem to be that "special" sort who regard 45mph as a perfect speed for all road conditions regardless of the actual speed limit too. Can't overtake them as their fogs have trashed your night vision. I have in the past tried flashing main beams at them, turning main beams on, all manner of things. Got no reaction whatsoever except brake lights!

What annoys me is the boy racers who drive round with green or blue sidelights on with their front fog lights on, why??? just put your normal bulbs back in and drive with your normal beam on

Do they think it looks good???

Dazzling people that are dazzling you is not a wise idea. When neither driver can see accidents happen!

I mate was passing a row off parked cars, when he realised that the read red lights ahead where closing the gap, only to discover that some knob was driving in the dark and wet with only red front side lights on! Be careful out there.

White to front, red to rear. amber for direction indicators....... seems so simple ............Yet the plod ignore the mobile fairgrounds/discos that are on our roads. Steroes so loud they need a PRS licence !

WHY ????

Cos it too much messing about to find the exact clauses in the law that applies.
That's why murdering political fanatics get set free (just look at the news any day of the week)

 I give up !

One member here is advertising LCD lights that flash at the same rate/sequence as ambulances ... ok poor light emmission by comparison, wouldn't fool anyone to move over, yet still offered as legal (?)

When the plod tell me I can't use flip flops and blue lights (once fitted) I will ask exactly which part of the road traffic act(s) I am not complying with.

Bring back sanity ... White lights at the front and red at the rear !

PS ...dya think I would get away with a green beacon ??? LOL ... just asking !
