Title: Starter Motor
Post by: BigSi on December 07, 2007, 16:28:33
Where is the best place to get a starter motor for a 3.5 V8 efi?

Had a look on ebay, but the price seems to vary between £54 - £99?

Paddocks, I think £55 for a brand new unit with no surcharge is damn good.  It's at least 3 times that price for a Vauxhall car.

I saw those on Paddocks. Didn’t know if there was different types of the starter motor because of the different prices? Or is a starter motor a starter motor!  :D  :D  :D  :D

So would this be a good one (Paddocks)?

They have slight differences depending on year but AFAIK if it fits it fits, so you can replace an older one with a newer one and it should start better.

I do know that the solenoid on my soft-dash sits sidewys rather than on top like the '88 did, I think it's something to do with the cats but not sure :?

Saturday’s job is to change my starter motor (weather permitting). Is it a straight forward swap?

As said before, if it fits it fits.  Easy enough job provided you can get the allen key to the bolt heads.  I used socket allen keys, a couple of long extension and a swivel knuckle.
Good luck.
