Noticed the other day that the metal filler neck on my 90 has corroded so badly that diesel is starting to seep through when I fill up.
So off I go to my local Landy dealer (Guy Salmon - Wakefield) and ask if they have one in stock. To my amazement they have one that someone ordered and didn't collect.
Now bear in mind that this is a piece of thinwall steel tubing around 2 inches in diameter and about 9 inches long which has been folded over at the end for the fuel cap to locate into.
10 seconds later I understand why the guy that ordered it didn't pick it up when the guy behind the parts counter says "that will be £212.18 please Sir"
After picking myself off the floor and asking wether he is on drugs I ask him to check the price again but it is still the same. Needless to say I tell him to place it where the sun don't shine :D :D
Surely this must be wrong as a mate of mine bought the same thing for his Series for £34 the other week :? :? .

I already have one of these that I bought the other week off them, it is NOT for a Defender, they are advertising them wrongly as it will only fit a series. I need to return it.
Anybody any ideas where else I can try, I will fit a second hand one if in good condition.

I've never quite got my head around OE pricing strategy. Some things are very reasonably priced and the most unlikely ones, like this, are crazy money.
I'm sure there is an office bod sat in front of a PC somewhere who's job it is to pluck prices out of the air. They don't seem to be at all proportional to the manufacturing costs. If you had to have one of those made from scratch, I could imagine a bill in excess of £200, but they were rattled out by the thousand for the production line.

Hudds LandRover centre or Paddocks or if you are desperate Simmonites......

Simon (Services) up near me?
That LR garage at Castleford, just off Lock Lane/Barnsdale Road?
The one at Hill Top(?) at Knottingley??? (on road from Pontefract to Knottingley)

No sense to some genuine-spares prices whatever the manufacturer.
My dad yesterday paid £621 for one wing-mirror for his motorcaravan (Merc base), Ok it is slightly larger than a LR one, is electrically heated & operated but even so, £621!!!

i brought one for 32 quid from my local land ranger services
and even then thats dear as they are rip off merchants
but i was sick of more derv coming out of the tank than going into the tank when filling up

Just been quoted £49.35 inc vat from Huddersfield LR Centre, Cheers Jim-Willy.

There is a reason some of us call them "Main stealers"
I was quoted £22.00 + vat for a bolt!! I got it from the agricultural supplier for 50p
I actually believe they don't want the business!

Strewth, did it come with a fuel tank attached

I know everyone is quite quick to slate main dealers, but I'm buying more and more from my local main dealer...
I'm fed up of having substandard parts from aftermarket suppliers, and at times I finding some bits are the same price - or even cheaper from the main dealer, than they are from other suppliers!!!
Take Td5 bulkheads for example - main dealer about £200 - Cradocks = £300!!
In saying that... I do get trade discount  which helps at time.
You just need to shop around!!
