Hello,
As car chases have been done to death, how about nominating the best off road driving in a film.
No specialist stuff like Dakar reviews, G4 or documentaries etc, and the vehicles have to have wheels so no tanks or mech warriors etc.
My nomination is "Ice cold in Alex", the one where they drive an army ambulance to safety after being stuck behind enemy lines during a retreat in WW2. The tension is great and its ahead of its time in relation to the "enemy" . I have spent many a Sunday afternoon watching this instead of various DIY jobs.

Just researched another
"Sorcerer" about a load of guys who are driving trucks through the jungle, trucks are full of unstable dynamite!

Nothing in the trailer about off road till the end, but in the film it starts form about 30 mins in. I havent seen this for about 20 years.

How about when Jim Carrey is driving a Land Rover Series II through the jungle in ‘Ace Ventura : When Nature Calls’. 8) 8) 8) 8)

Now, that is a nice sequence, I don;t even have to view it to know exactly which one you mean
Alternatively, Burt Reynolds in the river (in the Trans-Am) in 'Smokey & The Bandit'?
-
Bad Boys 2 with the series 3 driving through a mexican village, literally!!
-
I like the ace ventrau one, although he did about £106.23p worth of damage to that SII!
-
I know it doesn't really include 4x4's as such, but most of the chase scene in the original Italian Job, is technically 'off road', therefore should qualify, especially the bit where the Minis jump from roof to roof :D
-
Some good offroad action here.

Cool film ,arnt they sent to get the unstable explosive from an old mine shed in the middle of the jungle to blow out an oil fire but the only thing they have is a scrap yard full of old army trucks .They make three out of scrap then head cross country . very very good film but like you I haven't seen it for 20 years but now I know what it's called I will try to track it down 8)

The biggest problem with U-Tube is you get saddled with someone else's dubious choice in music, some good films there though.
-
Im deffo putting sorcerer on my xmas list, only available as regioin1.
Ill resist the temptation to you- tube till then
Yes, they build trucks from scap and do blow up a big log wiht nitro etc. Cool, maybe even better than Ice cold in Alex.
Also neither film has CGI and all the better for it, use of REAL tension and believable action.

I remember a film staring, I think Roy Schider (jaws) driving an army truck thro the jungle, with a wicked scene where he has to negotiate a very rickety wooden bridge, Brilliant, if only I could remember what the film was called !!! :?

Any of the scenes in Dukes of Hazard with Dixie coming onto the road from nowhere.

Mind you the General Lee did it's fair share off road as well really.

Sorcerer
and I remember the creeky bridge bit
-
Cheers Lee. That film title has eluded me for years !! Only ever seen it once, but the bridge bit has stuck in the dark recesses of my mind ever since. Thanks

Just watched last 20 mins of Free Willy. Forgot about the winch action and waffle boards! Ice Cold in Alex is the classic 'off road, movie, but A Bridge Too Far' has a good bit where the Willy's jeep is playing hide and seek with Gerry in the forest.
-
i like the police chasing the motorhome across the desert but havent found it yet to post
but like this one too http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Pe70Rcn1B0

Loads of clips of Sorcerer are on you-tube, and im afraid the "Dodgy music" is original tangerine dream.

There's A good scene in Bourn Supremacy, where Bourne and Marie are fleeing the russian guy in GOA, and she drives the truck off a verge and through a field, a small scene, but a good one.
Also "Dante's Peak" has a few scenes, one where Pierce Brosman drives his modified ford? truck through a river and a guy follows in an estate and his car claps out. funny as hell.
-
What about the bit in 'Commando' where Arnie pushes the pickup down the hill, jumps in and foils the bad guys ?
-
there is a fair bit of driving not on roads if you know what I mean in one of my fav films .
My kids tracked a copy down for me on vhs a couple of years age 8)
check out the trailer

road movie on a low budget 8)
-
Pierce Brosnan in Dante's Peak, when he says to the woman in the Chevy 4x4 as the bonnet goes underwater. "It's ok, the engine's got a snorkel!"
Cue for cmaera shot of a Safari Snorkel on the side of the bonnet!

And the tyres get burnt off in the lava flow?
-
"The gods must be crazy" takes the lead for me. Particularly the winching up the tree and the rock under the wheel scenes.

Nice one Muddy Mike! but surley we cant count it. It is so accurate it must be an official land rover driver training video? :-) im sure the bigger rock method is used in the current manuals.
-
How about the Toyota HiLux in Twister?
Good car chase, the fact that it was off-road and being chased by a Twister is just a plus. :D
-
I like Clarkson - Range rover sport vs Tank
Rich
-
The Gods must be Crazy .... classic. Proper LR :)
..and for silliness factor - "The Rock" with Sean Connery. Elise (I think) vs Hummer - hehe ...
oh .. and for stupid continuity issues - that one with him out of Grease - where they nick a missile - name has escaped me. The hummers get blown up (you see bits fall off) .. and then look brand new in the next shot (very A-Team!)....ah remembered - Broken Arrow.
