Rabbit has taken to making distressing gridning noises when the front hubs are locked. While I was doing the clutch cable I hung off of the front prob which promplty went clunk-crunch. Swinging on it and tugging it about produced more of the same noises and I noticed that the movement is at the input to the diff. I assume a bearing has disentegrated.
So
I'm guessing there is a bearing in there. How easy is it to get the thing out and get a replacement part? What else is likeley to have been nuked? I have a feeling the diff is now empty too.

pinion bearing rich im affraid
easier and quicker just to drop another front diff in
if you decide you wana takle the bearing drop rob storr a phone call as he does the kits to replace them

I think diff might be the way to go, I dont really have the space or time to dismantle one. drop it off and count the splines I guess.
