One of my mates asked me what do i think about frontrea's so i thought i would ask the a few question
same question 2.2 diesel
what are they like on fuel?
what are they on handling?
what are they like for towing heavy?
-
to sum up...
i have 3 and their ace..
2 swb petrols and a lwb 2.3 turbo diesel. very underated vehicle in every way. The equal of any landy i have owned. (or driven)
tell him to buy one, he wont be dissapointed.
have a look at
www.fronteraowners.co.uk

Nothing wrong with the 2.2DTI, you aint gonna break the land speed record but its not too bad on power for its size, close to 30 MPG too i think! Handling is not bad due to the torsion bar independant front suspension, not to much body roll!
Will tow a transporter trailer with another frontera on no problem
Dont listen to a landrover owner as they are bias, and most will tell you frontera will never be any good.
In truth the only thing wrong with a frontera is they never made a version with a front live axle, so off road it is no differrent to a new Hilux, Terrano, maverick, trooper or any other 4x4 with independant suspension!
So only by owning and driving one can you give a fair comment

I used to have a 2.2 LWB Petrol............
Comfortable and car-like on road
Never managed to get it stuck off road, and I took it through some pretty sticky places
in reality I only got rid of it because it was just too heavy on fuel
I'd recomend one for sure!!

Yep, petrol version is a little more thirsty than the diesel!
Nice to see a landy owner recomending one too

well sorry to put a negative on a frontera but got one 2.2petrol, the biggest disappointment i ever bought 1st thing less that 30 miles down the road fuel pump went so replaced it
2)200 miles down road engine went bang put a con rod through the block at 50 miles per hour so now Iv got one piece of I cant say what i honestly thing of it and trying to find an engine at a affordable price well £600 for a engine (if any one can help please pm me)
I have to agree the ride is fab, the car is in very good nick just that dam engine watch the fuel lines on the fuel tank , also low oil pressure, also water pumps, and above all if the engine shows any sign of rattling that is the first sign you go 100 miles left in it, if you are lucky

Funterras are pretty good trucks, and very tough. Quite capable in the brown stuff too.
They make fair tow cars, easily pulling beyond their weight, even the 2.0 petrol.
But I wouldn't go so far as to say they are the match of any coil sprung LR, my RRC pulling it's own weight, well that's over 2 tonnes and in truth my LSE will handle 3 tonnes like it's a boot full of shopping.
Trouble is LR do everything that bit better, including drink

I'm Now a :) landrover owner, i did have a 2.4 lwb petrol frontera, no problems at all, but i'd keep away from the older 2.3 diesel, get a 2.2 dti or one fitted with the 2.8 turbo diesel, good luck ...

yeah! :),nowt wrong with fronteras at all, especially the later models,(trooper in disguise) and ive had one of those, crackin motor!!

I've had a few Fronties,
2.2 LWB, 2.4i LWB & 2.0i SWB in Petrol and now on the 2.8TDi SWB. The only time I've been stuck in one was when I dropped the back left wheel into a ditch..
I've had them through Thick Mud, 2.3ft deep rivers (None had a snorkel) and 1ft of snow and even though I was on Road Tyres and "Standard", they don't give up!
BK, The Trooper in disguise is the Monteray.. Very good off-road!
I've been a Passenger in a 90, 110 and a couple of Zukis and I haven't found one as comfy as the Fronty .. (Have yet to go out in a RR or Disco though so I won't form total judgement), very little roll even at 40+ Sideways round a corner and as Johnny states, "Very Underrated" ... it even says that in a couple of buyers guides!
I'd recommend getting one, even if after a few weeks you decide it's not for you, at least then you can say You know the Fronty as well

My missus has a frontera 2.8 n reg. 110k wanders all over the road mroe so than my 1989 110. Steering box adjusted to the max and within MOT pass range but I think it drives terrible. Its slow (well, compared to a 200tdi disco it is). Never had any problems with it, does over 30mpg and iwe got 28mpg towing a 1tonne caravan to cornwall.
To be honest, I hate the thing! Having said that I cant tell you why u shouldnt get one! She had a 2.4 petrol before that. That was also bomb proof but bloody thirsty!
I took the 2.8 green laning onc when my land rover was off the road and was quite impressed.

If it wanders that bad, check your steering idler and tryes, aint had that problem with mine, did have some play in the steering wheel and a tightening of the box sorted that .
For a 12 year old my 2.8 rocks powerwise, if yours is slacking and you have done the usual service ect, try cleaning out the intercooler and blanking off the egr valve ;)
