the traction control & hill decent (amber light) comes on intermitantly  any one got ideas why
-
Same thing happens to ours. At the last service, asked the garage to check it, said they couldn't find a fault.
Doesn't happen very often.
-
i wonder if its a common thing then :? it doesnt seem to effect then running of it so i guess its not harming anything :?
-
only just seen your posting .... are you still having problems with it ??
is it petrol ???
-
It's a 2002, TD4. Not had them come on again since it went in for a service 2 weeks ago
-
still having trouble only sometimes :? its td4 2002. i did put it down to the wifes heavy foot but it happened to me once so i couldnt blame her to much :o
-
That's strange, it was happening with my wife too, again I thought it was her heavy right boot!!
Happened once with me before going in for the service, touch wood, nothing since.
-
I still say she broke it first
-
We had (until this week) a 2002 Td4 Freebie that experienced a similar problem - we had the HDC switch replaced - but under warranty, so don't ask me where it is!
-
Check the front brakes. HDC, TC and ABS are all interlinked. If the pads are a bit worn then that could be causing the problem. Other bits to check are the wiring to the switch.
-
i have the same prob to, ive changed my front pads and it still comes on :( !!!! i have 2002 Td4
-
Sorry about the late reply ... beeen away !!
Well I cant speak for the Td4 but ..... on the 1.8 you must have 12mm of slack in the throttle cable else the HDC light will come on and go off again as you mentioned earlier. You can adjust it easily at the bracket on the throttle body, just slide the outer cable out of the notch in the bracket give give the square plastic bit half a turn or enough to get some slack at the pedal then slide it back in.... no tools reqd.

Iwill give that a go but in the mean time my good lady has now said it seems to happen more when she is low on fuel :? the mystery deepens someone tell me when i should give scooby doo a call
-
no no no today there is more than half a tank of fuel and it happens again so that theroy is out of the window :(
-
Had similar problem on my 2000 1.8 turned out to be fauty brake light switch. Told it is quite common that, they stick on and confuse the ECU.

I have had a similar problem since I changed my rear wheel bearings. Put it on Test Book, no fault codes logged. Have now given both rear ABS wheel senors a tap inwards, Problem gone. To get proper access you'll need to remove the road wheels. Hope this helps
