Title: Which 4x4?
Post by: gareth001 on August 14, 2007, 11:57:05
Well here is the question - I'm after a 4x4, with either a V8 or V6 petrol (don't mind too much about mpg as will have LPG added). But preferance is on the V8 models. I've listed in the poll ones I'm looking at at the moment, so please vote accordingly. Any comments on why one over the other or any aditions would be gratefull.

Please add what it is if you ticked/tick other.

My use will be back and forth to work and green laning. No school runs so don't need to show off....

Thanks

Gareth

I think your budget will decide for you.  The top 3 by a MASSIVE margin are the RRC, the DII and the P38.

Obvioulsy if you can afford the DII and don't mind scratching it greenlaning then that is probably the best choice.

P38s have dated badly  in my opinion but later ones still look well smart, again if you don't mind scratching it but also if you don't mind the dealer having your pants down every time something electricery breaks.

Or the good old RRC, later ones have the EAS and ABS and such like but are fairly reliable (or put it onto coils), plenty to choose from for sensible money, like LPG, havn't really dated as it's the classic shape, easy and cheap to fix/find s/h parts.

So if it's a cheapy then the RRC

If you have about £10k then a DII

If you want to be POSH then a P38

step away from the p38, nothing but heartbreak to see there.      and the disco II make sure the one your looking at has the diff lock fitted as the traction control fitted as a replacement on the earlier ones isn't the most reliable.

disco 2 mod parts are more expensive than disco 1/rrc/90 parts. not sure about the jeeps, but i'd be tempted to give a wrangler a bash if the lift and other bits arn't rediculously expensive.

test drive the lot, the right one will soon make itself known :D  :D

Well I pick up a P38 this afternoon with 125k on the clock but in very good condition. Been treated regardless of cost by it's ex land rover dealership mechanic owner.
