if its a diesel i should imagine its to control and with hold the engine like a pajero 2.8td.   Hold would mean that when it comes to a hill it stays in gear to let the torque of the engine do the pulling where as power means it will go all the way through the rev range to 4 or 5k rpm and there for using the gears when you hit a hill by dropping a gear for the higher revs.

Yeah, it's the comfort/power tranny button. As stated above, it adjusts the gearchange positions. Higher rpm changes in power mode for towing/driving like a moron and comfort for everyday.

cannot see why not.   they usually more common on diesels especially pajero's and not had a jeep so could not be 100% but i guess it will be the same.

It's the same on the petrol.  As previously stated it changes the point at which the gear changes happen by holding it in the lower gears longer when in the 'Power' mode.

The facelifted XJs left the factory with the transmission allegedly set to the Power setting and so they did away with the switch.

Seems similar to the one on a ZG to give better err attitude on motorways etc....
