Stu, what are those funny looking coil shaped things jammed in between the front axle and the body?... oh, yeah. SPRINGS! Go do something useful. somewhere else...
He wants to replace the rear springs, AND lift the XJ up a couple of inches. This will require doing something about the front springs too, or he will look like a drag racer with the arse stuck in the air. The easiest way to do this is to replace the front and rear springs at the same time. The rear LEAF springs, and the front COIL springs. The ones for diesel cherokees will give a 2" lift. Alternatively, use 1.75" COIL spacers at the top of the COILS.
I did this on my '94 XJ, diesel LEAF springs in the back, and 1.75" spacers in front. I gained enough room to get 31" AT's under there.

Oh yeah. Muddy Machine, speaking of arse stuck in the air, some people might suggest having the work done at a particular place in Portsmouth. Unle££ you like ge££ing ben£ over, just get the parts and install them at home.
Have your mate call Andrew/Julian at Lighthouse, tell them what he needs, (leafs/coils, or leafs/spacers), soak the rear LEAF spring bolts for as long as possible in WD40 (or they are a PITA to get out), swap the leafs/COILS/spacers and enjoy the better ride (i do).
