Title: Disco TD5 Cruise Control
Post by: Duckhunter on August 05, 2007, 23:11:38
I tried to do the cruise control thingy on my TD5 today; got a replacement steering wheel with the switch on rather than try hacking a bl**dy great hole in the existing wheel.

I got everything off OK - yes, I was very wary of triggering the air bag - but guess what? Once I'd got everything undone I coudn't shift the steering wheel!!!! Do I need a puller of some sort or is there a trick to it??

Yours in anticipation ( of a brilliant solution )

Clive

butcher the existing steering wheel.. it's not difficult to get it right.
the rubber flange that surrounds the switches is large enough to hide any minor deveations to your hole.

unless of course you have an alterior motive for changing the wheel?

You don't need a puller.  Loosen the nut but don't take it off (otherwise the steering wheel will hit you in the face when it comes off).  Now give it hell - waggle it, pull it, hit it, etc.  Usually if you give it a good strong waggle from side to side, it'll come off - pulling is usually fruitless.

You can always get a drift somewhere solid behind it and give it a good whack with a hammer.
