Hello,
I get the MSA (Motorsport Association) qtrly magazine where they publish changes to motorsport regulations.
There are PROPOSED changes to "Production Car Trials" class of motorsport, which has previously excluded 4WD vehicles.
IT is proposed that from 1st Jan 2008 MONCOCQUE (cant spell it) 4wds will be able to compete in a new class. That means defenders, discos and the such cant enter as they are ladder chassis but unmodified freelanders can. The MSA want to encourange more people into this grass roots motorsport, which was getting outdated in terms of regs.
"Production Car Trials" are (I think) like a RTV 4wd event, but less bumpy and muddy as typically its saloon or specialist kit cars (this is not the classic trails which uses those wierd things and a bumping passenger)
I think freelandes should be quite competitive as they are better off raoad than other "soft roaders", but also agile and nippy. I imagine that freelanders are less competitive in "propper" 4x4 events, unless modified. Note that only unmodified vehicles can enter (no 2inch lifts I believe)
To enter you will need to join your local motorclub and I think you need an MSA licence (easy and only £14 year)
No who thinks that sounds like fun!!!!!!!

Hello,
Sorry, been away (sprinting in the Elise, won, hooray!).
I cant find my copy of the MSA mag tonight, but will try to find it and scan it in to send out to interested parties.
Like I said, its currently for consultation and not in effect till Jan 1st 2008, so i suppose itcouldbe revoked/declined, unlikley. Therefore any clunbs wont hold a 4x4 class till next year.
I think that PCT regs are very light so little prep is required. For sprinting in the elise all I had to do is a cut off sticker on the ignition and yellow tape on the neutal line dont even need 4 point harness (but I do). I think they may ask for a handheld extinguiser.
Ill digout the mag and post more info when I find it. If someone sends me a mail address I have last eyars MSA regs (2006) that I could post to any mad freelanders if you want it (for reference).

I now have a scan of the regs in PDF if anyone wants it.

Just have to hope you don't shear the crank, blow the head gasket or crack the the rear chassis. etc etc etc
