Title: driving in the snow
Post by: Highlander1 on July 25, 2007, 20:46:12
Last winter I was driving through the village which has a really steep hill.

It had been snowing and as the usual saturday night a couple of local lads opened the back doors of the car and asked me for a lift home to the top of the hill. I don't mind cos it clears the streets and saves any hastle later on.

I got to the top and bit them good night.

They said no John It's ok we had a bet that yer Panda wouldn't make it to the top of the hill.

can you take us back down to the pub.

You know, theres something funny that happens in Alberta every year.

Between Calgary and Edmontom is a long, fast open stretch of dual carriageway. Its about 2/3 hours drive from one end to tother, similar jaunt from say London to Scotch Corner on the M1.

About November the first snow comes, and its always good to take a lesuirly pootle up that road for a laugh. You'll find pickups and 4x4s all ovber the place, in the medium up/down the banks, facing the wrong way, the works. You see some people think that a 4x4 means that they are invunerable to snow, WRONG! :)

The Delorean is incidentally undrivable on snow and ice, you just spend most of your time dealing with the rear wheels trying to overtake the front ones, then sitting there feeling like an idiot.

The best 4x4 I ever had was a 1959 2 and 1/4 pertol Landrover with thin cross ply tyre and a thuding great Harvey frost crane and 3 ton springs.

It would go anywhere.  :)

But can't you just go back in time to BEFORE the snow, or forward, to when its all melted?
