Ok guys i THINK my front wheel bearing has gone but i am slightly confuddled by the fact theres another bearing in there....the one with the shims on top of the swivel........i am capable of changing the hub bearing...but how difficults is this other crazy bearing malarky?

Spinksy.. jack the wheel clear of the ground, try n 'wobble it' if you can feel play top / bottom left / right its the wheel bearing in the centre of the wheel
if you have movement top/bottom but no play left/right its the kingpin and can probably be sorted by removing a shim or two, the bearing will prob be okay thats why the shims are there..
Cheers Steve

a fool proof way of telling which bearing is gone is jack the offending wheel off the ground and give it a wobble like suggested to bottom left and right. now get someone to stand on the brakes. If the movement stops it's the wheel bearing. the disc is being held still by the calliper ;) If it continues to move then it's the swivel bush/ kingpin that's worn. the bearings in the swivel vary rarley go but you should do them when you rplace the reiko bush (this is the bit that get's the wear) removing a shim is only a temp fix as the lining will only wear a bit further down
