Title: fitting a steering guard

Hi all

I have a 94 v8i 300 series M reg and would like to fit a steering guard onto it.

What changes will i have to make to front bumper ?, at the mo i have the front bumper with the fog lights in, so i know they will have to go, but can i take the valence off that the fogs are in ?, also i have the original bumper without the fogs, but both look the same apart from the holes where the fogs go.
The corners of both the bumper's go all the way down to the valence, so do i need a different bumper or just different bumper corners ?.

The centre of the valance will come off without any problems but the ends are all part of the bumper end caps and if you want to remove them then it's a cut job.
I would tend to cut the standard bumper and leave the ES version with the foglights as it is, incase you want to re-fit it for selling the vehicle later.
If you don't want to cut either bumper then you can get heavy duty front bumpers that have lifting and tow eyes welded in. You can get them from the likes of First Four Offroad (http://www.firstfouroffroad.co.uk/replacement_bumpers.htm).  :wink:

Hi Ron

I have a Rebel 4x4 steering guard (the one without the towing eyes and jacking points) fitted to my 300 tdi which at the moment still has the original bumper with the valance and foglights. However, the original front towing eye had to be removed to fit the guard.

I have a heavy duty front bumper from Paddocks waiting to be fitted so eventually the original bumper with the valance and foglights will be removed. The Paddocks HD bumper is actually made by First Four but it is marginally cheaper to get it from Paddocks as you don't pay carriage on orders over £50.00p.

The main reason for removing the valance and foglights is of course to give you a much higher approach level when navigating ruts etc.
