Title: Steering Wheel Fitment
Post by: Guardian. on July 07, 2007, 19:57:32
I am after a different steering wheel for a 1986 110 county stationwagon, but all the listings i have seen have the boss kit for 1990 onwards and 1994 onwards or something like that, none are listed for a 1986.
Can anyone shed some light on the fitment for me, and perhaps someone that sells aftermarket boss and wheels. thanks, spence.

Have a look at 'Marsies' Rover wheel in this thread (http://forums.mud-club.com/viewtopic.php?t=45659&start=20) (viewed through rear sliding window)

I'm wanting to change mine as well, but don't want to have to use an aftermarket boss/adaptor, as I'm happy with the distance to the wheel and certainly don't want it any closer (just a smaller diameter)

I've asked 'Marsie' to tell me more about it (ie; what model it's from), so keep an eye out for a posting.

yes that looks good, ive heard that metro ones fit, perhaps an mg turbo would look da biz, just do they really fit.
have to agree with you about the adapters going to push the wheel even futher out! not good.

Mountney do a boss that fits, the only thing you need to find out before you order is the number of splines on the column.

Does it reduce the 'reach' to the wheel?

Hi all,my steering wheel is from a rover metro gti #-o ,it is a direct replacement to 300tdi type steering columns and gives better elbow room \:D/ so no more battered elbows,it also improves access to the car due to the bucket seats

Paul, does it restrict the view of the instruments (& warning lights) in anyway?

there are 2 different sized fittings on defeders, early and late are the same but they changed in the middle for a while, I went through 3 trying to sort mine as I had a column for an unknown year

I got a nice new QT steering wheel and boss now, from t show.
the early defenders have 36 splines, the later 24, not sure when the change over was though, but i would guess when they went tdi.
