Title: Snorkel for XJ series Cherokee
Post by: rhythmsister on June 13, 2007, 22:31:07
Hi !
I've got a 2.5litre petrol XJ Cherokee (1993). Does anyone have plans/intructions or whatever to build a homemade snorkel.
Cheers

I had the same idea a while ago, but after searching the internet, and finding some ides that I didn’t like, I bit the bullet and bought a Safari Snorkel of ebay. Think it looks much nicer than many of the ‘homemade’ snorkels out there. And because your XJ is a 93, the snorkel is much cheaper that a >96. It also comes with instructions and plans, and after a few hours of graft, you have a fitted snorkel.

Worst part was hovering over the wing with a hole cutter and wondering if it’s a good idea or not!!!  :(biglaugh):

Neither Safari nor Airflow make snorkels for the 2.5 petrol, so custom is really your only route. However, the 2.5 petrol isn't generally used offroad, so you might be on your own designing something. Bummer.

not technically correct, as the Safari one will fit a 2.5 petrol!  the airbox is the same as a 4-litre..........you do have the same washer bottle problem to overcome on post 95's tho!

i know this, cos i had a 2.5 petrol with a safari fitted!!

I bow to your greater knowledge.

Seriously though, if an ARB or Airflow will fit, it's worth doing the job right. With a homebrew, you're likely to realise that after you cut a 3 inch hole in your fender that it looks cack. Also, proper snorkels are hard as nails and bolted on well so that your first encounter with a tree doesn't rip it off.
