Post by: paul and sam on May 01, 2007, 21:56:11
i have a problem with my sons disco (300TDI) i thought that the clutch master cylinder was up the shoot so have replaced it. it hasent solved the problem, which is it clonks/grinds into first gear and you have to switch it off to get reverse then start it in gear it feels as if it dosent quite have enough clutch to do the job. so i decided to have a look at the slave master and unbolted it from the bell housing in doing this i managed to remove the clip as well as the push rod HOW THE HELL DO I FIX THE CLIP BACK as it is doing my head in i have had enough and am in need if some surgestions on how to fix 1 the problem with changing gear and 2 how to fix the clip back  please help as i am banging my head aganst the wall ](*,)  ](*,)  ](*,)  :sobsob:  :sobsob:

with the clip i tend to put the bottom end in....pray....then whack the top end with a screwdriver and hammer and it usualy goes in, just dont rush it as you dont want to no the concequence

when in reverse and you start it in gear, does it creap if you let hand break off and then start ? as this would suggest that the clutch isnt pulling right the way

Sounds like a fault i had with my 200tdi disco last year.  Turned out to be a clutch damper, basically a round disc shaped thing which goes in the pipe circuit between the clutch master cylinder and the clutch slave cylinder, also the other thing to check is the pedal, there is an adjuster behind the clutch pedal to make the pedal go away from the bulkhead more.
