I was chekcing my prop shafts at the weekend, giving a good wiggle to see if any play and I noticed the rear prop doesn't rotate at all but the front can be rotated about 1/4-1/2 a turn by hand. (in high gear, no diffs locked)
Of course I can't remember if this has always been like this.... is this normal?
fortunately no side ways movement as I replaced the bolts and some of the joints some months ago.

did you have hand brake on? (connected to rear prop) and some play is acceptable - but that does sound a lot!

Yes, my disco does it because there is some play in the splines on the gearbox output shaft to the transfer box. If chock one wheel and let the hand brake off you'll get play in both props, However 1/4 to 1/2 a turn seems excessive!

Remember that the front axle has a lot more joints to wear out compared to the back, so it might turn more in comparison even with the wheels on the floor.
