they aint that bad on road   , they way way way better than grizzly claws on road, less sound and handle better

he has got a 4 1/5 inch lift and has the 9 inch armed and ready

if he has fitted arches it will be fine, you can get em in on a 2 inch lift
Title: any Disco pic's with 35's fitted
Post by: suggs on April 09, 2007, 20:55:49
yeah ive got a 2 inch lift and 1 inch lowered shock mounts, also got the body cut and arches fitted. just the gearing that will probley need sorting on a 300 tdi
Title: any Disco pic's with 35's fitted
Post by: extreme90 on April 09, 2007, 21:06:20
nope, he did have arches until they got ripped off   , so he is making his own arches

gearing wise, you will need a 90 transfer box, unless you change r+p's

if u use a 90 t/box, it wont be brilliant on road unless you fit a full width intercooler,
my 90 just keeps on going with the simex fitted, bottled out at 90 tho

i think Ashcroft do a diff conversion, Chuggermans new large arches would work well with the bigger tyres..

yup, 4.1:1 had em in the disco for about 2 years now. They put you back to stock gearing if you have 32 and a bit tyres. Certainly help big time with the 35's.

You can also get 4.75:1 from CAM.

Should be getting my roccia ones this week too. :D  I am putting 33/12.50/15s on mine with a 3" lift . It drives fine on 265/75/16s so should be ok. May get 90 box later on as having the intercooler sorted anyway. 8)

a disco with 35" simex on will look well smart - saw one a year back at a show...very nice.

had some extensive arch chopping though to make them fit nicely

Bully your disco would look much better with Simex on than those BFGs

You reckon? well each to there own. Lifes full of choices..mines been in several mags so it aint that bad with em   including the essential mods in TOR .

Simexs are great if you odnt need to drive other than offroad..trust me mine gets further than most simex equipped trucks.

BTW had simexes and sold em so there you go, we all make mistakes from time to time.

oh and those on 39 look crap cos they arent simex....err yeah right,

as for being in mags well no i guess it doesnt make a diff at all. But where is the piccy of yours on the thread? I put mine up as it has 35's.
My disco looks how i want it too and i wont change it for you or anyone else. Sorry if that seems harsh but ive spent more time and money on that than you can guess so maybe im a little touchy.

I read it as it was written.

I would post a piccy of mine but it aint a disco, so its not relevant to the thread.

I didnt ask you to change your disco if you read the posts. Anyway, glad your disco looks as you want it to...thats what matters.

...and i thought the 39s looked good

Has any one used Procomp X Terrains, I would like Simex or similar but have to agree with Bully, I don't want to be changing half-shafts etc every five minutes and don't have the cash to upgrade everything. The Procomps don't look as aggressive as my grizzly claws but I assume the extra height would kind of compensate for that, a set of 5 on rims for about £700.00 seems quite appealing.

Bully, I have the same sort of set up as Suggs, 2", lift reduced turrets and rear mounts, extended arches extended bump stops and +4 brake lines etc, are you sure that 35's would fit OK. I spent Good Friday sat on my diffs in Wiltshire and am seriously considering a new set of boots but don't want to set off on one of those more money after more money journeys that I tend to find myself on.

Thanks

Gav

Gav, mine worked fine with 35's on but be prepared to reduce the length of sill protectors and winch bumper as they were the bits that stuck out on mine.
Like i say ive gone to 4inch but that was to get bigger shocks in and the 3 link makes the front end much more flexible.

check out this link for some landies with big tyres!

http://www.mez.co.uk/fitting35s.html

What about 900x16 tyres - what is the overall size, implications, etc?

Post by: Lyndsey731 on April 13, 2007, 09:58:16
Sill protectors should be ok, discocwk and myself got them custom made by our friend Guardian so they stop at the extended wheel arch, bumper might have to suffer the grinder though.

Thanks for the advice Bulli

What do think James? might be a discount for two sets!!

Bully, what does your 4inch lift consist off..

Lyndsey731, dont forget that if you go to 35's you may need to change
the gearing

these are pro-comps on the green disco, not sure if there 35's

Yes I have thought of that, mine feels quite slow off the mark as it is. I still need to put my silicone hoses on, flush the intercooler, smoke scew etc..

I still have my old 200 tdi so I thought might be able to swap the transfer box from that with one of our local landy mechanics. Also thought about selling the engine, gearbox etc but it's in great condition and only done about 5 miles since a cambelt change and 1000 miles since a new clutch.

I thought the transfer box ratios for all discos and V8 defenders were 1.2-1. You would need 1.4-1 (defender diesels NA & Turbo!) for the larger tyres, maybe even a 1.6-1 for 35" tyres

Come on James read it properly!! I said I could swap my spare box with a local mechanic maybe noddy or Dan , that way I could pop the defender box on and still keep the original one so I could change it back if I ever wanted to. Oh and thanks for the loan of your spare last week.

Andy you should have come out last Friday mate it was a cracking day! I managed to pull 2 tyres of the rim in one lane, funnily enough the same place you did yours.

I have been thinking on this one and I am thinking of going for diff lockers for now and then larger wheels and tyres at a later date and keeping a sharp eye out for a 1.41 to 1 transfer box at the right price. If I eventualy go for 35's then I think a body lift is a must!

Picked up 4no. pro-comp X terrains 35/12.5/15's on white eight spokes from Birmingham on Saturday, the've done about 400 miles, excellent condition, £300.00 the lot (£660.00 from Craddocks) I will post pic when the pc stops being difficult!

No problems with the gearing or clearance in the arches, it actually seems to pull better then when it had the 32" Grizzly Claws on, though the front bumper will need trimming as you boys said, thanks for the advice.

Thanks to disco cwk for spotting them on e-bay, coming up with me to collect them and for helping to fix the rear wheel bearing when it went bang on the M5 at 70mph. Also got to say thanks to the boys at MM4X4 for letting us borrow their tools to do the job.

Yeh I know what you mean Suggs, I did put them on with the highlift jack on the rock sliders so that they would really go up inside the arches on the opposite corner but as we all know off road is another matter!

its when the back wheels get pushed up on an angle like in the pic, fitting spacers may help..

Have already got spacers fitted, the only place that they look like they might touch on the back is that angled bracket that the mud flaps fix to, so that might have to come off.
