Unless you are a policeman then you can't as it's confidential information and subject to data protection etc. If you are a policemen then you can only get it if you have due reason.

Strangely you can get all details of previous owners via the DVLA at a cost but not the current one.

http://www.vehiclelicense.gov.uk will show you the vehicle status.

Also i am pretty sure that you can get the current owners vehicle details from the dvla if you pay a fee, you need an excuse mind, i.e. they drove off after hitting your car.

Yes its on the web site somewhere, it also tell you when the tax is due ect.

They have a good thing on there that lets you know what your current car failed or was advised on at its last MOT.
Handy if you have just bought it and want to know a bit of its history

I think there is a way, under certain circumstances, try contacting the DVLA explain what you want and why, and I do beleive they may sent your details onto the current owner, it then being their descision if they want to get back to you

This is something I looked into a while back but never followed it up, but must be worth the cost of a phone call to DVLA to see what they say

Or tell them you welded up a gold bar into the chassis by mistake, and just remembered   :D
