Title: Bike speed limit - 81mph?
Post by: thermidorthelobster on March 30, 2007, 21:43:20
No, not a rehash of the other controversial threads...  I'm talking about a pedal-powered bike.

Imagine being overtaken by this on the M4

Speed limit applies to anything on the the road (caveat for emergancy vehicles, but even that isn't clear cut).

As do redlights, stop signs, one way streets etc etc.  :?

Cheers

i been stopped for speeding on a pushbike once
if i'd have had a car licence at the time, the officer said i would have got points and a fine!

and as for cyclists who run red lights, if one does it within my reach, they are going down.

Don't get me started on push bikes running red lights, the amount of mornings at 7am when I have seen a crazy fool on a push iron fly through a usually busy junction on the red without looking is unreal, there have been some temporary roadworks near my work and the other day whilst driving the Disco through them on GREEN a cyclist came through the other way, I had nowhere to go so had to stop to let him past....and he gave me a dirty look

I am not a cyclist hater though before I get branded, I used to do a bit myself until Mr. John Smiths and Mr. Worthingtons took away my active fitness, I always give them a wide berth

I once set a speed camera off in Dawlish Warren going down a hill on my mountain bike.
Once me and my mate realised what we could do we rode back up to the top of the hill and did it again! This time with an obscene hand gesture toward the camera!
  Bloody knackered after that

Also against the law, if I remember the RT Acts correctly.

i cycle most evenings now and every now and again i get dirty looks of disgust from roadies (racer bikes) as i am on a mtb...

it seems the two "disciplines" dont like each other much

talking to others who ride mtb say those who ride roadies have turned to the dark side!

i obey traffic laws the same as i would in a car, except the speed bit cos i cant go very fast!

setting off a speed camera is my aim though ;)

He he. No the to camps certainly don't like each other.

So you can imagine the looks I used to get cycling home from work along the A4 overtakin' roadies on my GT off-roader. 7 miles, 19 mins, up hill. Sweeeet!  8)

44 ring onto an 11 sprocket. On Z-Max's that bike would sing at speed.

Having said that, I die of exhaustion just thinking about doing that, these days   My, how things change!

cheers

I managed 55mph on a racer going down a 65 degree incline for about 1/4 mile then road runs for about 3 miles and i gave it everything i was shattered 1/2 down and yup there was a copper at the bottom waiting for me..   tried to have a go at me and i just said yer whatever and toddled across the road and back to school.    but thats years ago like 96!!!  not sure about today though!
