Bagpuss, the Flumps, Ivor the Engine, from when I was very young.

Then of course there were the fantastic epic cartoon series like Dogtanian, Around the World with Willy Fogg, Ulysses 31 etc.  Now look around at the freaking Powerpuff Girls and see where progress has got us.

Anybody remember Gideon the depressed duck?  I'm beginning to think it was a hallucination.

Good stuff.

Bagpuss, Magic roundabout, Rainbow...although very dodgy now.

I have chorlton and the wheelies and bagpuss on dvd.

Anyone remember Heidi?? That ran forever and the Grandfather did the voice for Baron Greenback(just kidding but they sound the same!)

We didn't have TV on St.Helena where I was born and bred but one of the highlights of my childhood was the 3 monthly batches of "The Eagle" sent by relatives in the UK.  Anyone else old enough to reemember Dan Dare and his sidekick Digby.  The other thing I remember about it was the cutaway drawings of planes and cars etc. it always had on the middle pages, probably what inspired to take things apart originally.
