I have got a 1997 3 door 1.6L 8V vitara....i thought it was built in Japan at first, till i noticed spanish stickers about the car and some chatter on here about spanish built vitaras.

Can anyone clairfy the history of the vitara for me. I realy need a Haynes book to try and sort out a persistant misfire that I get when the engine is cold, but I am confused by the models and the fact that the haynes book only covers upto 1997.

Mornin rich, have also got a vitara.Believe me buying a haynes manual won't help you sort anything out,its probably the most expensive coffee mug mat you could buy.It's written by americans,so you have to put up with their jargon and mostly covers the sj.Save your money mate.

Look at the VIN plate

If its Jap or SA then it will say 'Suzuki Motor Co'
If its Spanish then it will say 'Santana motor Co'

Yes thats the same Satana that make the PS10 :)
I also discovered just how useless the haynes book of lies is last night.

Thanks for the advice re: Haynes, you've confirmed my suspicions!

As for the misfire, I've changed the plugs, leads and distributor cap. The car has an intergrated coil/distributor.

Is has a slight misfire when warm, but it is at its worse, for the first 2 mins from a cold start. I don't have any ECM lights on, so that makes me suspect something on the HT side of the ignition.....do you think it is worth me changing the rotor arm?
