m8s 90 is "clacking" Now what needs changing?

There was a really long thread on this just after Christmas - it might be helpful.
CV shoudln't be too much of a pain in the proverbial.

Calm down, might just the shims sorting out, jack it up so the wheel is just off the ground and see how much play there is when holding the top and bottom of the wheel, if loads, then you need to remove some of the shims form the swivel pin, and also guessing there is no oil/grease in there.
Is the swivel leaking much, they all seem to leak a little, if so I guess it has never been topped up, I put one shot in after adjusting mine and has never been noisy again, much cheaper option to try 1st :wink:

my cv clancked a bit and last week smashed 90 miles away from home, i was well chuffed, just spent £200 in garage getin it done, the only thing is the other side has a slight clank on lock.
do i get it done now, or smash it on the road again?
liketo hold on to me200 quids for as long as poss.

200 quid! do it yourself, it will only cost you the price of a cv and it is really simple! (eh dan :P)

friend had his cv joint clicking for 2 months before he ( sorry i :evil: ) got around to sorting it :lol:
those are AEU2522's tho so its understandable :lol:

thing was, i was in ungreat yarmouth and i live in spalding long way! buy just took the front prop off and drove it back, thus smashed bits of metal flying around inside hub b.ggering everything up inside.
plus wish i had the time for mending everything i broke!

Ditto it's a CV starting to tell you it's a bit tired. Better to get it sorted as i have known one break up and it jammed the steering in the straight ahead position.

Checked mine - as described today. Had a fair amount of play in the offside wheel. The mechanic who serviced it said last time that he'd removed as many shims as possible :? What's the next step please?

Check to see if there are no more shims to come out.
If not then it's a rebuild of the swivel housings :( Good opportunity to replace chrome swivels, seals, CV's & worn track rod ends!
Not a hard job, just takes time & you need to be methodical...the Haynes manual explains it quite well.
Make sure you get the pre loads correct when re-assembling :roll:
