is there another way to fill the swivel housing with one shot grease other than through that square nut,cos i cant get it out?could i fill it via the top swivel pin? hole
-
iff you get a fair size syringe, and fill it from the bottom through the drain hole, syringe has to be a good fit in the hole though. alan......

No, cos removing the swivel pin loosens the swivel housing seal and it'll run out of the seal as fast as you put it in the top.
It's not normally that hard to get the filler plugs out, unles the last person to check the oil level in the swivel housing horsed the thing up and it's rusted. Try a good dose of WD40 on them every day for about a week and see if that does anything.

If the outer drive member is also the outer part of the drive shaft, ie pre ABS style axles you can get quite a lot of grease in through the middle of the CV joint, but you might no get it all in in one go.
There is a filler plug, drain plug and level plug, guess which one is big enough to fill the thing up by.

If you want to put it in through the top swivel pin hole you need to raise and support the chassis in order to remove the wheel, then put a jck under the swivel housing to prevent it from dropping when you remove the top swivel pin. The weight of the swivel housing may well ruin the seal if you allow it to drop as well as allowing the grease to run straight out.

I find that once you let them leak, they definitely get the habbit for it. Not realised the seal could actually be damaged though :?
Anyhoo, I guess with an ABS swivle you can add the grease through the top but on a non-ABS axle isn't the swivel pin into a blind hole :? Can't remember for sure.

Just to help, one of the lots of one-shot I bought came in a squeezt tube will a filler pipe and the other in a syrynge with a filler pipe. I buy in bulk now as it's cheaper but it's worth asking about the container before you buy.

Just a small point, when (if) you get the squire filler plug out put a screwdriver ect down the hole, if you can feel something solid about a inch or so down you need to turn the wheel as the chalice is covering the hole and the one shot will not be able to get past it.
