I just picked up some rims with free 195/15 MT's on them..the tread is all legal with atleast 10mm on them but the writing on the side walls is peeling off on a couple.
The tyres are something international (i didnt take much notice did i) and they are remoulds so i wondered if they would be road legal with the remoulded writing coming off on the sides to reveal the tyre underneath?
Its only very thin rubber peeling off but i can see they used to be goodyear tyres, its not all the way round but just little patches where the last owner scraped them against rocks.
I just dont wanna stick em on and some eagle eyed bobby hand me 3 points for defective tyres.

Sound like pretty poor remoulds to me are you sure they are speed rated for road use? I have had several sets of different brand remoulds and have never seen the rubber peel to reveal what the tyre used to be

They have a q rating on the side. Its peeling where its been scraped against rocks by the looks of it Jim. Theyre not down to the inner fibres or anything just about 1mm thin rubber where the writing is thats peeling off, the odd letter on the sidewalls is missing on 2 of the tyres.

Personally as long as the tread is ok not cracked or peeling i would use them............
-
Tread is spot on, just the sidewall scrapes. I just didnt fancy 3 points :-)
I will ask a traffic cop round here tomoz if they show.

Get it MOTed with them on, then you have some comeback if you get pulled.
Personally, given that all there is keeping you on the road is 4 small patches of rubber, I don't take chances with tyres.

MOT proves nothing though, you could have swapped the wheels afterwards or damaged them leaving the testing station.....
If tyres are showing any damage at all I personally wouldnt risk it for my own safety let alone others or worrying about points. Go slow for a while on them!
