Title: Quickie...
Post by: Doobreydog on February 05, 2007, 10:42:24
Just a quick one....Just thinking of trying to inflate tyre back onto rim using lighter gas method as shown on top gear a couple of years ago...

Tyres nearly knackered anyway so just thinking why not...

Dont want to blow the neighbours windows out or wreck myself in process...Questions

Was it lighter gas or fluid???

Anyone tried it before...did they live to tell tale.

Whats the likelyhood of wrecking tyre in process.

Cheers

Not for one minute am I saying that you are a nutter for trying it, but I think it was lighter gas.

Please do it, and please film it. You could get the executor of your Will to post it on MC for you.

It can't be that dangerous :?     . I just remember the guy on Top Gear standing well back when he lit it, using the aerosol and lighter flamethrower technique. I'd have a bucket of water ready just in case too.

I remember seeing it done on a programme about offroading on an Icelandic glacier.  Didn't look too hairy but I cant remember the details.

I thought it was lighter fluid, if gas i thought it would disipate too quickly?

It's fluid not gas.
Done it once, and it certainly makes a bang, but it did work.
 Pete.

Ahem.... if I remember correctly, they only used a very small quantity of lighter fluid...... not a 15 second burst     Are you still with a full quota of eyebrows???

That last one has developed a remote firing method that looks more dangerous than inflating a tyre with exploding gas.

Never invite me to one of your barbies! I'd hate to think how you would get it going!
Saying that, Top Marks for giving it a go! :D

Is this relating to getting tyres back on the rim or lighting a barbeque? :?

yes it is lighter Gas and i have done it a few times

but shave your eyebrows off first or you will loose them as a mate of mine found out   and wear a hat and jacket of some sort   (lost my arm hairs lots of times)

do it with no one watching as you will always get some T***ER saying you should not have done that or calling the police.
