Title: Driveway or Not?

I love the fact that they say if your rich enough to own a 4x4 you are probably rich enough to have a drive.

Judging by some of the 4x4 owners I know you don't have to be rich to own one - I know I'm not - but then mine's parked on my ex's drive.

Maybe we should start a poll to see who has their 4x4 on a drive & who doesn't :-)

Well... Lets Just Do That....

Running for 2 weeks. Lets see what u got! lol

Erm
No, mine tends to stop outside on the kerbside, unless I get to the garage first (on special occassions)
There's a double garage, half full of gardening bits & pieces, a Fabia.
Outside, on the drive, stand a Mondeo & a Focus

<thinks>
Ask Nelly ('Thrasher' aka Neil) how many are on his drive

We turned the garden into parking - does that count?

I got, a Range Rover , Caravan, my Transit Van and a derelict fish pond in the back garden along with various other items of crap/scrap.
Outside is my Disco and LandyBabe's Range Rover.
It's a bit like "Steptoes" yard round here

We have a fairly sizeable drive - when we bought the place nearly 10 years ago, the front garden was a nightmare.
Had it 'reworked' so we can park 2 vehicles side by side at the bottom, the the other 2 behind leading up to the garage.

Even with 4 90's sat there, we still have a 'visitors' spot, as long as they bring a small car.

As we live 1/4 mile down a byway, i have also created a space in the hedge for the Hi-lux!

No Drive, Zook is parked on private land though. And the Audi is technically a 4x4 and thats parked on the road (Would never fit in my 1960's designed garage even without all the junk ) :)

You should see Dennis the Diesel's garage - there's no floor in sight which is why all the 90's are on the driveway - that and the fact that the roof is too low so the garage door isn't very high. We'd have to take the roof off the Landie, put it on silly small wheels just to get it in!

I'm just a poor student so i have to make do with a 4 car wide tramac drive or large concreted farm yards/brans when not at college. Its a hard life...

it WAS a garden, then we levelled it and added sand etc, now have space for both 4x4's and my bike off road!
anyone that sbeen to visit me will know my street is a nightmare for parking, with several pratts parking anywhere - including in front of driveways

If you count a 1/4 mile of rough track, a river crossing and a farmyard a drive, then yup! And no, I'm not rich! It's where I'm staying with my other half's family. And nope, they're not rich either! They bought it 15 years ago when it was a bit of a wreck.

I've got a drive and its full, there's a caravan, a trailer, my Daihatsu Fourtrak toy, SWMBO's Fiat Punto and my Disco, we have to play musical motors some days depending on who has to go out first.

You might not be aware but by law (1986 Vehicle Lighting regs IIRC) any vehicle weighing more than 1525kg Kerbweight MUST be parked with sidelights on, facing the direction of traffic any time after lighting up, irrespective of the speed limit in force, when on a public road UNLESS parking within a parked parking bay.

Personally I think it's bl***y selfish of people to have cars and dump them on a roadside when they have a perfectly good drive doing nothing.

Not wanting to ruffle any feathers and I know many folks don't have off-road parking, but I got to a lot of trouble to make sure my cars are all off the road, on my property (or space I rent) and not in anyone else's way, so when I come home and can't get onto my drive because some bone idle t****r can't be bothered or hasn't the skill to get onto their drive it seriously p****s me off.  You wouldn't guess though would you

Like Frank, I have to play musical motors with my single width drive. It's 4 cars long with 3 on it most times, but it can get interesting in the single track lane outside

P.S. I'm not rich.... I've got a damn great mortgage to pay just to have the privelage of bricks and mortar.

Me too, I just opted to swap the grass that I never cut for gravel, it still looks neat and contrasts nicley with the Tarmac driveway, then I covered in in Solihull metal :D

When I was buying a house I looked for 2 car parking spaces on a drive and space in a garden to fit a caravan. It isnt a huge house (2 bed semi) but I have my brothers car here too at the mo whilst I try and sell it so disco is parked a thumbs width away from the fence so other wheel is on kerb stone which is level with road. deeds say no cars to be parked in the road so that is what i shall stick to despite the neighbours parking in the road.

I"ve said yes in the poll but it's not strictly true as 2 wheels are on the drive and 2 are on the front lawn which is partially covered in gravel (see avatar)  :D  :D  :D

When I bought the house, I was a secretary on a single income - when was the last time you saw a rich secretary that HADN'T married the boss!  The house is a 3-bed semi with a garage and a long enough drive to get 3 cars on (although under the car port it's nearly not wide enough to open the doors on anything bigger than a Fiesta). Although when I moved in there was a ten-gallon hat in every room and hoofprints on the lawn   :(

I voted yes, even though the front garden has now been turned over to hard standing, providing parking for another 2 vehicles including the RR.  When it first came home, it lived on the front garden which turned into the Somme when the snow thawed and the slope onto the lawn(?) went a bit gooey.  The decision on the work was taken after RRB had to come down and tow me off backwards.

Yes i have a drive, could fit about 4 cars comfortably on the main bit, 2 down the side and another at a squeeze if you didnt mind moving without shuffling cars first!

However its not my house, i just live here!

The overiding impresion I get here is that we as a group make the best effort possible to keep our cars to ourselves as it were, yet the woman who's complaining started this is whinging that she will have to give up her beloved lawn    My heart bleeds for her it really doesn(n't).

Creating a parking space will add value to her home anyway but the thing that really galls me here is we are perceived as being selfish and on this issue (and many others) we are the least guilty group of individuals.

Mind, I've said it before, they won't let the facts get in the way of a nice bit of prejudice.

think it also depends on the area you live, as to if you have got a drive or not.
most council houses around my area have drives
