Ho, ho, ho!

NOW the ordinary motorist is going to get it lets see how much support
the antis will get now :?

I love the fact that they say if your rich enough to own a 4x4 you are probably rich enough to have a drive.
Judging by some of the 4x4 owners I know you don't have to be rich to own one - I know I'm not - but then mine's parked on my ex's drive.
Maybe we should start a poll to see who has their 4x4 on a drive & who doesn't :-)
-
Does large car park count as me drive way?!
(YES according to me insurance :D)
-
But why dose she need a Espace to carry 3 kids? Any car will do that even a LR or Disco.
Its the people who have a new Mini that will have a shock.

My driveway gets kinda full.... (There's another Jeep behind the Wrangler...)

I have three 4x4's on my driveway :D
It makes me laugh in the video when they say it's not just the 4x4 driver that will get hit by these taxes but "the ordinary motorist" as well. Who do they think drive 4x4's :?: bloody aliens

it still fredom of choice or do we all have to start cycling
i know lets move to china or india
so if every one parkes in there garden it wont make any extra spaces as there access would have to remain clear

I grew up in richmond, my parents still live there. It is one of the richest boroughs in london (not my parents though unfortunately!) COngestion is an issue and they were filming in strawberry hill, a bloody nightmare to park. Best thing they can do is to turn all the buslanes into off road courses, it won't aid congestion, but it wll make my journey to my folks alot more fun!!
-
So how does a vehicle that's parked create greenhouse gases   Surely they should encouage people to park up and use legs, cycles, etc for local journeys  The fairest way to tax gas-guzzlers is to increase tax on fuel, the more you use the more you pay..... oh...hang on..... they've already done that
-
Hmmm.... well, that's a well thought through tax, isn't it?
The bit about 4x4's is the usual ill informed, blinkered view that the only 4x4's that exist are BMW X5's and Mercedes M class. Yes, if you have one of these, it is quite likely that you don't leave it on the street at night. But there will be many old Vitara's and the like that are.
As for needing an Espace because of having 3 children..... what's wrong with them walking to school? They choose to live in the city so that everything is convenient for goodness sake. And when they do need a car, just about any family saloon will do. The *only* legitimate reason she has an Espace is because she *wants* one, freedom of choice. And why not, say I.
I just wish people would stop making excuses as to why the choose one vehicle over another and own up to the real reasons. Like so called celebrities buying a Prius because they say it's 'green'..... rubbish! They buy it so they can been seen to be 'green'. Even though it is misinformed. They wouldn't touch it with a barge pole otherwise!
-
I saw a program recently about how bad flying is for the environment and they wer naming and shamiong the worst celebs. POsh and becks are up there but oddly so are some of the pius owning holywood types.
-
Now I see what all the fuss is about. Well I still say that if you own a car you should have somewhere to park it, I sympathise with those who live in terraces and the like but to live on a min road and block the road when you could park on a driveway is selfish. How would that daft t**t feel if her 3 children were run over trying to cross behind her quite frnakly huge peoplke carrier.
Oh, and a Mondeo is an ordinary car but it still takes up more road space than my Range Rover.

Yes, but saying its for carrying 3 kids!! I agree freedom of coice but why not say that.

There are 3 seatbelts in the back of a Micra, she needs an espace just like I need a Range Rover for my caravan, if not less than I do.

You wouldn't get 3 child seats in the back of a Micra though! Plus, if it's got a passenger air bag, kids can't go in the front either!
Actually, I can't get 3 in the back of my Discovery either! Hence, we got a VW Sharan (= Galaxy).
-
In her defence i will say that she may only have three kids but invariably with kids you tend to not only have them as passengers but also their friends as well  three kids can very easily turn into five or six (speaks from experience)

while I dont like the tax I quite agree with making people not park on the road where possible.
I bought my house (and paid more than other ones nearby) partly because I had a big garden with possibilites to make off road parking.
I physically cant get my 101 out (without offroading it anyhow!) through one of the directions out of my house because the road is too full of cars. Every single house in the road has space to park atleast 2 cars in the front garden if they put the effort into digging/surfacing.
Even where people have drives they often dont park in them. I hate getting stuck waiting for ages to pull round a parked car because someone was too lazy to reverse into their drive.

Too Lazy???
I think you will find incapable is closer to the truth.
That is the problem, nobody should be allowed to drive until they can reverse the most difficult vehicle there licence allows them to (your 101 for instance)
This includes Tin Tents (yes I do own one, 25ft long and my 15 year old son can reverse it almost as well as me)
The fact that you can take your test in a Nissan Micra and then drive a LHD Hummer is ridicules, almost as ridicules as taking your test on a Honda 50 and then ride a Kawasaki Z1300.
That was stopped so why not cars?

i don't have a driveway so as you can see from my signature my range rovers park in the road.on a bad day for my neighbours all three can be there, most days its just two.the series 2a parks out side the garage block four houses away.
i believe with others that your choice of car is your desision, you have to be happy with it even if it is an X5 or ML.
i enjoy using and learning to abuse those vehicles that i love and own
