After my delivery to RAF Lakenheath today..2 F15's (I think) practicing full afterburner touchdowns and take offs....[Edited] was it LOUD  touchdown..afterburner on then full vertical 'dust off' fun to watch, but REALLY bad on the ears...also saw 2 in air tankers kc..summats.. from MIldenhall.. good day, but something VERY worrying about a 19 year old being given a loaded weapon , and permission to shoot to kill :(

I agree, but at least not being American, he should be able to tell the difference between friend and foe!!!  :?

But they are American at Lakenheath and Mildenhall  The RAF lease both sites to the USAF.

erm he WAS American ;)
lots of them in fact... some very tasty Yanky motors too... and the cleanest Fuel Tankers I have ever seen!!
-
So why didn't you drive the extra 1/2 hour to come and say hello?? I would have put the kettle on!!
-
KNow some of the guys from Mildenhall off road from the base....top chaps  :D
-
Oh, i'd forgotten it's an USAF station. It really is frigthening then!
Yank motors have never really appealed to me. American aircraft on the other hand... The delights of a running a country willing to spend buckets of $$$ on boys' toys.
Watched an old RAF Jaguar do a touch-and-go at RAF St Athan a few years ago - that was loud enough. An F15 must make a racket. Good fun though :)

if you ever stay in center parcs elveden you can hear the [!Expletive Deleted!] flying day and night!
not good on getting kids to sleep when they hear a thunderous roar!
-
We regularly get the F15's 'dog fighting' over here. Even at 20,000 feet the noise is crazy! Not exactly 'stealth' But they are not flying at night so often these days...... probably due to complaints from Center Parcs  Of course, nobody will declare war at night so they don't need practice in the dark anyway

When I used to work in Norfolk, part of my patrol area took in RAF Coltishall, then home to the RAF Jaguar squadrons.
I used to take a short break for a ciggy, in a layby on the road at the end of the runway, and watch the 'chaps' landing.
They used to think it was great fun to drift in to touchdown and just as they got over the top of the patrol car, the b*ggers would open up the throttles again, nearly blowing the car and me into the field beyond!
A great bunch of people
Now the base, the last active Battle of Britain station, has closed. A real shame.
-
Spent many a happy hour under a Phantom in full reheat adjusting the engine, now that is loud
Much better to be in the cockpit though
-
go round aber, borth and cardigan bayand down towards devils bridge way you're driving along and you're level pegging with fighter aircraft.
Fantastic

Although you are more than welcome, I'm not sure you would like the single track road to our house! We are a few miles south of Wymondham and 90% of the roads are single track :D
But if you fancy a break when you are passing Attleborough, my business is off the B1077 (www.dsnclassics.co.uk) and I'm sure we can spare a cup of coffee
.....RAF Coltishall, then home to the RAF Jaguar squadrons.
And now it's closed, they are going to fill it with imigrants who have been refused entry into the UK, but 'cannot be sent home because of danger to them in their own countries'

Sleap airshow (RIP ) a few years back had a Tornado fly past..a tad loud
