Post by: Miniman on January 14, 2007, 17:42:37
Right guys not pulled a diff to pieces but if ya got play in ya std rover diff can it be tightened up or is it just time for new. Also the sailsbury are they adjustable or not.

Go on then mike. I recall seeing the rover diff has like a crown end caps with like a leaver which locks into place. Or is that just for endfloat.

IIRC thats for side to side clearance,

if u have lots of backlash u would need to shim up the pinion inwards, ive no built a diff for a while so a but rusty

Yes about right Mike. Also to do a Salisbury diff you need to spread the axle to remove it.

Yeh it will be a 24spline as its a 300tdi M reg 110. Right humm I think I will look into it as there is a fair bit of play in the rover front diff. The Sailsburry is good but wanted to know anyhow....

The rear has say a eighth of a turn where as the front has about a quater and when drive is taken up it makes a big BANG and I know its not the box because thats new...

I'd say about 1/8th of a turn is about normal for a diff with some miles on it I'd deff be having a look at the front on tho

My thoughts exactly. It makes a horrible bang when ya take up drive and the bang will one day be a messy bang with a nasty rattling noise and no drive......Humm.... Its a shame its a 24spline because I have 2 diffs out of a discovery which I think are 10 spline. THINK anybody tell me different its a L reg disco was a 200tdi.

200's were 10 spline but with it being an L-reg you might be unlucky

id say if its a L reg, if its a latter one, itll be 24 spline, just take a rear or front wheel of to tell what spline it is, if the front is a 2 piece drive flange like a defender one except slimmer its s4 spline
on the rear it will just be a slim drive flange

Well you may have something there. The old range rover alloys fit all round but they dont fit on my B reg 90 as the bolts holding the shaft plate in stick out to far. Is that what ya mean.... Its hard to explain.

one thing to check on the 110 is the drive flanges as the splines on them wear, diffs could be fine
