Hapy New Year to all!
I've recently converted my truck cab to hard top. Whilst at the scrap yard, I noticed they had some nice freestyle alloys with even nice BFG All Terrains on them. I don't know the exact sizes etc of the tyres and it's raining at the moment so I'll not be going and looking!
The tyres were fitted and I drove the 60 miles back from Telford with them without a problem (although due the lack of rear door at the time, the cold was more of an issue!)
I've since noticed that the whole vehicle vibrates/wobbles when accelerating between about 40 and 50. It doesn't matter whether I'm in 4th or 5th at the time. The whole vehicle wobbles. If I'm decelerating from 50 to 40, there's no wobble. I had the wheels balanced on the weekend but it still happens...
I believe it could be anything from the transfer box to the diffs to the propshafts...
Any other ideas from anyone or am I best taking it into the garage?

did you fit the wheels aswell?
Does your 90 have drum rear brakes?

Yes I fitted them, but ATS were the last to have them off and on when they balanced them at the weekend
I think they're rear drum brakes...

They wont fit onto the mounting flange. They foul on either the drum, or the drive flange and dont seat all the way down(well, at least they did with mine)
Effectively means your wheels arent correctly attatched.

even with spacers?
The wheels are the same - I had freestyle alloys before. I just bought a new set of the same wheels with different tyres on them!

Id guess spacers would solve the problem, have you used the spacers before, are they true?

Yeh - the spacers were fitted with the old wheels on!

Check your prop UJs
probably just coincidence it happened same time as new wheels

you could ave your tyres mixed round, for example, your fronts dont wear as quickly as the rears there for if the tread is uneven you could be getting vebration at certain speeds, i have seen this before especialy on 4x4's when folks swap MT's to road tyres for going home ;)

The wheels and tyres are brand new. I have done less than 600 miles in them.

what about balancing them i had the same problem had them balanced and they are fine now

The noise is similar to the annoying, ear banging noise you get when one person opens their window a bit...just there's vibration too!

sounds like propshaft UJ's to me. ours are doing the same thing because they need replacing

my day to day truck vibrate just a little when i lift off from about 70. its the UJ's just beggining. the vibration will get worse as the ujs's deteriorate try checking them for free play/wear and grease them up if neccesarry. it will certainly help. also just to note, the ride and character of (example) 225x75x16 ATs will be very different from 205x16 RTs.

ours are trashed.... well, on the way there. still the originals i reckon, maybe changed once at a push! :shock: just not got around to doing them... had to do one of them a good while back cos it screamed like [!Expletive Deleted!] when accelerating or engine braking.. bloody thing. the remaining ones are just juddery at the mo, not THAT bad yet.

I left the uj's vibrating on my series III. The vibration trashed the diff and transfer box oil seals, the diff pinion bearing and the transfer box output shaft bearing. So for a £15 propshaft repair I ended up paying about £100 in parts and lots of grief in fitting all the bits.
Get em fixed.

Hi all,
I have been having the same problem mith my 200tdi Disco, I have checked everything that has been sugested on other parts of the forum and still the vibration occurs at around 40 and disapears when slowing down. I was talking to a mechanic mate and he sugested checking the injectors to see if it was a misfire, I found that one injector is not right.
I havent as of yet changed the injectors but will do soon. hopefully this will solve my problem.

Funny but I've got a vibration on the LSE I'd swear was a UJ, it's noisey at 70 (how annoying, I'll just have to go slower :wink: ) but now it does it at 35 ish when accelerating. Unless it's a bent prop then I'm sure it's a UJ but they all feel tight :?

You sometimes get simlar symtoms with exesively*spelliling* worn prop sliders too

Getting the same on the pig 40mph wobble like hell till 45mph likewise decelerating. The UJ in the steering column was knackered so that was replaced. The polybushes i fitted on the front don't seem to be up to the job so going back to met-elastic ones see if that helps :cry:
