Got a problem with a 1989 90.
After driving round town and parking outside the house I noticed an oil leak.
Okay I know they mark there parking spot :lol:
but this was a small puddle. The oil level was on full before but now reads min.
The leak seems to have come from the breather pipe on the filler cap. It has always left a black stain at the end of the pipe and you can see vapor when hot but its never thrown a puddle out.
When running on the spot I can't see and drips.
Anyone got any ideas?

check your air filter housing , to see whats in there.
if its a TD they do breath heavy so that does tend to push the oil out.

Is the breather on the oil filler connected to anything else?
It should be connected to the air intake. If its not, then you must reconnect it. Mine used to be dangling, used oil, then I reconected it, but the hose collapsed/kinked. this made the leak worse. I have since replaced the cap (thanks wingnut) and used a new hose. its a lot better.
The hose needs to be connected to the sir intake as this sucks the air out of the rocker cover. if not the pressure inside builds up, and blows the seals.
Is the rocker cover covered in oil? You can refurb the seal on the filler cap for about £2. Also change the rocker cover gasket, about £2.
Worst case, and I think whats kinda happended to mine, is that the rear crankshaft oil seal leaks, and needs replacing. This is a gearbox/engine out job.

Had a good look. It seemes the oil definatly has just come from the breather pipe. The breather comes from the filler and rests ontop of the chassis.
Can't find anywhere that is missing a pipe. Am I right to assume that is right?
If so still can't work out where the oil came from. Filled it up and SWMBO has used it for work today so will see later what happens.

As mentioned above the pipe should run to the airfilter housing. There should be a connection on there. Perhaps someone has swapped the td for a n/a one? I don't think they have it. You could reconnect it somehow or create a catch tank and pretend you're a race car driver! lol

Must of had a cold :wink: as topped it up to the half way line and drove it and no leak to notice anyway. :?
Have now topped it up to the top and will see how I go.
Maybe it was having an off day. :wink:

I had a similar problem. i found it was due to worn piston rings compressing the sump and blowing oil out where ever it could!
