Title: Spare Wheel carrier
Post by: wonderboy on December 25, 2006, 20:44:24
Needing a wheel carrier as the rear door is getting harder and harder to open, specially with modular wheel on.  Seen this from Ross 4x4 any good?
Wants £80 with p+p extra.

It is a reliable design, I have a similar one from WH Carriers and that has been fitted for about 7-years and given no problems.
That one looks bare so I assume it is up to you to get it powder-coated?

Might be worth checking your doors hinges too - you can get a 'repair kit' for each hinge, containing new bolt and the 'olive' that wears out (even quicker with a heavy modular wheel on it). The kits cost about 70-80pence per hinge plus VAT from Craddocks - so for about £3 you can replace all three and it makes a real difference to the back door.

The swin-away carrier probably is the way to go, but changing hinges might mkae life easier while you have a look around.
