Title: Heaters
Post by: Razdus on November 26, 2006, 19:36:03
Hi I am in the process of restoring a SII it has been fitted with a square heater behind the gear stick, there are no markings on it, and I can not find reference to it in Haynes manuals, the matrix is working fine and produces a fair amount of warmth, but as yet the fan is not working, any help on make, repare ideas, electric wiring would be great.

Behind the gear stick?  Do you mean the rectangular smiths heater that goes on the bulkhead?

What year is your Series?

Hi thanks for responding, yes it is rectangular and is attached to the bulkhead. My landy is 1959 Sii, but many, many of the parts are not original, or have been altered or added. This heater has been added and is not original.

Hi
Theheater you have is most certainly a Smiths - I had one in my old 11a. The only reference that i can find to it is in the 'Optional Equipment' book. It shows it having 3 wires coming from it but where they go is anyones guess..
A similar style of heater was fitted to some reliant 3-wheelers.
If you want a laugh go into your local stealer and quote these part numbers at the storeman:
Heater unit, complete - 346225
Switch - 1H9077
'Heater' name plate - 560406
You could try putting a battery on the wiring to see if the fan rotates - if memory serves, there is a fairly chunky resistor in there as well.
