I picked mine up 140 on the clock with an obseen amount of history oil change every 3000mile and most of it dealer   for it's last MOT it needed an indicator bulb. look for the usuall place's for rust (boot floor top of rear wheel arch inside the rear doors, front inner wings and roof around the top windows)

I shall definatly want one with quite a bit of mot so i know thats its not completely rotten.

should of said to start with i should be looking at around £1400

But would want to add mods to it if not already done :)

hilux pickup... its the future! one on the trader for £995, chassis usually solid, only things that go wrong are general wear and tear, and panel damage (your average farmer will think nowt of using a hilux as a tractor, herding machine, wall straightener, calf delivery tool, tree stump extractor etc...)

loved mine to bits, which is why its coming back!

all you need is mud tyres, roll bar (+spotlights) and a hammer...

If 1400 is your budget I'd say go for the better 200 TDi and keep a little in reserve for the un-obvious but inevitable repairs.

I know where there is a good one well within your budget but you aren't local to me.

Also think about RRC, though the diesel would be the VM or a retro fit but they are as good if not better off road due to the lower C of G.

2 doors lowers the weight though if you are planning lots of bolt-ons and they are generally cheaper.

More Power- 3.0L TD Hilux Surf/4Runner then?

Similar class of car to the 300Tdi Disco. Loads of upgrade/modification potential (very popular in the US 100,000+ sold each year) so loads of modification stuff is available.

You might struggle to get one for £1400 though.....

How about looking at it another way. £1400 will get you a good diesel engine and a garage to fit it for you.

Then PM me for more details, my mates got 2 diesels at the moment.

Alternatively let me entice you with the prospect of cheap V8 motoring.

For £1250 you too can convert your thirty beast into a, well , thirsty beast that likes cheap fuel.

My 5.0 LSE can get from here to the NEC and back (160 miles) for about £26 at warp speed. Tank in the wheel well so no loss of boot space (that tank is the pricey bit) and it's a mulipoint sytem so you loose no power at all, I love it :D

Thge only problem with those 2 options...

Converting to diesel or gas.

Is that the money i have for a new car is coming from selling the rangie :(

Then you need to check arouond and make sure you'll get that much, as discussed on the thread i was just in, prices are falling pre-christmas and as a result of all the anti 4x4 hype.
