Title: Timing mark
Post by: andygod on October 27, 2006, 16:29:13
Can anybody please advise me as to what timing mark suits a 3.5ltr V8 running on LPG? I know that LPG engines like the timing advanced but I need to be more precise. I believe mine is a high compression engine.

Not as much as you'd think, about 4/5 degrees. BUT you will kill the engine if you run on petrol like that.

On Blue I have an Iwema ignition processor that adds 4 1/5 deg on LPG and it makes back up about half the power loss.

On the LSE I don't loose any power

On RRR we fitted a processor along with the multi pooint (like the LSE has) and it makes little difference, again LPG doesn't loose power.

The consensus of opinion on other forums seems to be about 8º BTDC; do you think this sounds ok? :?

I don't know the proper setting off the top of my head but for a HC that would be perhaps a little cautious, for LPG but it will be harder to start and more prone to damage when on petrol, so a compramise as always.

Mine is set to 8 BTDC runs fine no problems, installed one of the advancer gizmos 2 weeks ago and gave it another 6 seems to give me better power at high revs, was always a bit flat past 3k.
