Title: Diffs
Post by: Yoshi on October 18, 2006, 20:00:39
Now i have my series 3 i want to make it slightly more nippier and better on fuel.

So now the question, i know people fit other diffs into their axles.

Now if i fit some range rover diffs from a 1990 range rover will this help, if so how do i do it, whats involved?

Cheers :D

Fitting RR diffs will make the gearing higher.  Gives a higher top speed (if your engine can pull it ) or more accurately will reduce the revs at a given speed..  Should therefore be more economical.  As for nippier? hmm - consider buying a Fiesta  :D

Easy enough - pull shafts out enough to clear the diff, remove prop, unbolt and remove diff.  Repeat at the other end!  Front is harder than the rear due to steery bits!

Considered an overdrive instead?  (Gives  a - sort of - fifth gear)

I dont think that it would be much more economical as you would probably need more throttle to get and hold it there - nothing for nothing in this life.

fit a tdi - thats my answer to everything these days!

what engine u running on your series then bagersRover? things on mine iv found to increase performance- weber carb (if you get rid of the oil air bath then you can fit a larger injector nozzle=more fuel=more power)
http://www.cp-components.co.uk/ have a coil that might be interesting!
