Post by: paul_humphreys on October 18, 2006, 17:43:33
Billing 2007?

Well looks like its back on, this time run by LRM, www.billinglandrovershow.co.uk on the same dates, 20-22 July 2007, as the LRE show at Kelmarsh Hall. So its 2 shows on the same weekend.

So whos going where??

Paul

Speaking as a trader......  what an absolute joke.

Our phone has been ringing all day with other traders trying to work out what to do.

The spin that LRM seem to be putting on it is very.... interesting...  that somehow they have "taken over" the running of the Billing show, is quite honestly ludicrous... the Billing management has changed, and the previous  show organiser has moved on..  sounds more like a cheap attempt at jumping on yet another event  (LR Fest, Gaydon, and others spring to mind)

Even more ridiculous when you consider that LRM are also involved in the Manby show... which is being held 2 weeks before the Billing weekend.

The traders I have spoken to are on the whole, pretty fed up of it all... the punters will suffer, the traders will suffer... the only winners will be the magazines.

I can only suggest that nobody books in to either show just yet....  there are a lot of rumblings in the 4x4 trading community at the moment...  you might find yourself at a show with very little to see.

What a bloody stupid thing to do, as Muddyweb says, no one wins apart from the mags

Even more studpid when you consider that Kelmarsh and Billing are only 20 minutes apart from each other. No one is going to go to both shows and pay twice :x

Looks like I may do either Truckfest or Goodwood again, as this is just stupid...

Doubt I could go anyway, 20th is the girlfriends B-day...

It"s the kinda idea that i would expected to have come from a goverment but NOT from the 4x4 world  :(bigangry):    I have been stewing over this idea since i read the post earlier, And i agree with most people that no one is a winner on this one. My reasons are (if anyone is intrested) there are only a certain amount of traders out there to attend,  Im guessing even the very largest ones would find it unprofitable to put a stand and staff both events, it would certainly be out of the question of most stall holders, as i know many traders exist with very few people and draft in help for one location let alone two, and again with the price of the pitches again would not be a  financiable option.   and most importantly. only a set amount of punters to attend (especially with the ridiculos proximity of the locations), I cant see many people attending both shows on the same weekend , as many people travel hundreds or thousands of miles to attend, they certainly dont want to up sticks and move to another show just to buy from a trader who cant be at both locations , I think the "temptation" of two off road courses to drive  in my opinion is not going to make me rush to book both events,   also many clubs and groups of people attend these type of events for the social side of things, we for one love the atmosphere of billing shows. Now dont get me wrong although i like billing im not fussed about it moving,At the end of the day im sure most people dont really care where its held as long as its safe well run and basic facilitys are available       AND THERE IS NOT ANOTHER SHOW ON DOWN THE ROAD      PS i dont appolagise for any mistakes in spelling or grammer,as im more intrested in getting my tuppence worth in, Many thanks for your time in reading this

It may be me but if the web page is genuine then I would expect a LRM logo somewhere on the page.

This could well be a wind up and we are all falling for it.

Has anybody contacted LRM direct and ask them?

The winners will be Kelmarsh and Billing Leisure.

Me?

I'll be ringing LRM tomorrow and telling them that they can shove their subscription where the sun doesn't shine.

Witha bit of luck there'll be an injuntion taken out against LRM to stop them from running it.

According to the LRM forum it is true and it is them. They blame LRE.

The web address shown above is taking its content from here:

http://www.lrm.co.uk/fest.html

which is plainly part of the LRM website.

Well, if it is true, surely the answer is for everyone to stay away... traders and punters alike... make a few people think...

oh stuff the lot of them - i'll hold me own bash in the garden. With a pub over the road and enough willing farmers letting us out to play, who'll ever know the difference?

count me in hingmy. the loss of politics will only be a good thing.

people involved with "living" with offroaders are all (generally) a nice bunch but those that run things tend to let egos and politics get in the way of enjoyment

For what its worth, and rather than recreating the whole thing here.... it's been discussed from a traders perspective over here :  http://www.devon4x4.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2108

I had forgotten this discussion was running when I posted the other thread re Kelmarsh v Billing, although it would be interesting to see how the poll goes.

Of course the other factor to account is which show would let us have a club stand in it's own right

:D We are sticking with LRe, Kelmarsh looks great and the plan shows better organisation than Billing.  I booked it weeks ago and managed to get electric hook up aswell.

Well, I was going to Kelmarsh.
I've not been to Billing for two years (after nearly 7 years straight) as I got fed up with Billing being too crowded, lack of security, too much crime, toilets always closed, showers always cold........................

So I thought Kelmarsh would be a new start but......... if it looks like the traders are going to Billing then I'll just stay here and save the cost of travelling. That way I can spend more on mail order, sure I won't get to meet anyone but I ain't going to Billing!!

No doubt the traders will be shafted with huge fees and minimum facilities at both events?
The problem is most organisers get greedy, I went to one show and it wasnt cheap only to pack up a dinner time as no punters, we just about covered our fuel and vehicle rental, but not our wages.
Its a very difficult climet at the moment for traders as the big boys often shaft you on supply and price structures, many small traders would be better off working at Asda as they would do less hours and earn more.
The organisers are too busy telling you how much you will take so they want a big fee, they dont reduce it if it rains or the turn out is poor do they?
We should play them at there own game and not book, its not going to break the bank if you miss one event is it?
Right off to put my soap box away

Well I haven't hared anything from LRM only LRE....

Personnaly I'm sick of Billing the show has out grown the site and the security is  (shell we say not very good)

I'ld like to go to Kelmarsh..... but will wait and see which way the big traders jump.
