Hi guys over summer my series 2.25 petrol landy has startedf making a bad noise when de-accelerating, like when on motorway and going down hill if you release the accelerator you hear a rattling niose under bonnet, can be heard when stationary if you give it some revs then let go,
I would guess its something in the head? tappets or something?
also she leaking a bit more oil - related?
drives well ignoring that tho! any info greatly appreciated

could be timing chain tension on over run going slack

If it's a clanking noise that sounds like something hollow and metallic, check that the exhaust downpipe to manifold nuts aren't loose/fallen off. I had this on mine. It clanks when decelerating, because the load on the engine is released and the slack in the exhaust downpipe allows it to bang against the gearbox mounting, as it runs over the top if it. When accelerating/driving normally, the torgue of the engine keeps the whole thing under load and pulled away from the mounting.

didn't get round to checking the exhaust before my water pump blew its seal, new pump stuck on and working fine, but has cured the rattling noise so guess noise was the bearings on the way out!
next on list pro comps and extended brake lines!

another one i found was the bonnet stay rattleing around a certain revs
