Title: HELP, gear box trouble
Post by: discomummy on September 24, 2006, 17:06:57
Hi,

My auto transmission has now died, due to the lack of the oil due to the hole in the transmission case.

Does anyone know how long an automatic transmission should last in a V8 ?  my mileage is 118k, am i half way thru its lifespan, two thirds, three quarters?

as i am threatening to sue the garage - this information would be very helpful.

thanks

ela

There no lifespan it will last as long as it lasts , it may well be impossible to tell whats gone wrong if its destroyed itself, 118k I think its done well.

A lot can depend on factors on what the motor has been doing

Load pulling, frequency of oil change, abuse by whoever was driving it in its younger life

But if it felt ok when it was test driven, it could be difficult to do anything now, unless its still under some warranty

you may have to find out what caused the hole first.....

Hi,

i know what caused the hole, the universal joint that a garage put on exploded and the prop shaft caused the hole.

the disco has been back to the garage at least 7 times for them to fix it, but ............

have now taken legal advice and geoff will be talking to them tomorrow - i will be there but am apparently having to wear a choke collar to stop me biting the service manager.

regards
