What does the engine number say?

On the first picture look on the slanting plate that is on the RH side of the engine, I.e the side that the first piccy has taken. near the front kind of halfway between the manifold and the water pump.

That'll reveal all.

Looks like a 2 1/4 diesel from a 2A - has water shut off tap for heater and a DPA pump.
Could the adapter plate be for fitting a Landy engine to a different gearbox - such as a marine installation :?  ( only thinking this way as a neighbour has a canal boat with a 2 1/4 Landy diesel in it)

Nah, thats not an adapter plate, its the standard Landy flywheel housing. You can tell by the hole and cover plate used to check the timing marks on the flywheel.

Oh, and it says "Dualcast" on your head. I've got a petrol version in my '68 series 2A, 1959-61 vintage (the engine), it predates the landy its in by 7-9 years!

Whats unusual is that my petrol engine is the one that ran alongside the early two litre diesel in the series two. Its got smaller big end bearings and a different water pump to later 2 1/4 engines.

Steve.

It says Qualcast, the Foundry in Derby, they later made lawnmowers. The numbers on the block are the Casting Number, from the Foundry.

The Black Cabs had 2.5 BMC Diesels, then Nissans.
